Self-Determination & Financial Empowerment

Tuesdays/Thursdays, April 4 - May 11


Tuesdays: 6:00-7:30 pm (presentations)

Thursdays: 6:00-7:00 pm (optional support) 


During this 6-week cohort, youth 14+ with disabilities will learn the importance of self-determination in financial planning and gain skills and tools to empower them in making financial planning decisions. Participants must commit to all 6 Tuesday sessions.


Participants will:

  • Know key differences between banks and credit unions, including the use of credit and debit.
  •  Understand decision making when determining how and where to spend their money.
  • Gain information about benefits counseling, including how employment may impact SSI/SSDI benefits.
  •  Learn about ABLE Savings Plans.

**For Resource Families**: Introduction to Special Education and the IEP (VIRTUAL)

Part One (1): Wednesday, April 5, 6:00-7:30 pm

Part Two (2): Wednesday, April 12, 6:00-7:30 pm 


The Individualized Education Program (IEP) describes your child's special education needs and services. FACT Oregon, in partnership with Oregon Department of Human Services, presents an Introduction to Special Education and the IEP for Resource Families.


During this training, participants will:

  • Understand the purpoe of the IDEA and apply their knowledge of IDEA to the IEP document
  • Learn about each step of the IEP process
  • Understand how to effectively advocate for the supports and services that help a child access their education.
