The Architecture of Central Synagogue, A Virtual Tour with Marina

| | Located on Lexington Avenue and 55th Street, Central Synagogue is one of the oldest synagogue buildings still in continuous use in New York City. Designed by architect Henry Fernbach, it was built in the Moorish Revival style, inspired by medieval synagogues of Central Europe. Its twin towers, intricate stained-glass windows, and colorful patterned interior make it one of the most striking religious landmarks in the city. Designated a National Historic Landmark, it remains an active congregation and a masterpiece of 19th-century architecture. | | |

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), located at 11 West 53rd Street in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, is one of the world's most influential institutions dedicated to modern and contemporary art. MoMA was founded in 1929 by art patrons Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, Lillie P. Bliss, and Mary Quinn Sullivan. It opened to the public on November 7, 1929, just days after the Wall Street Crash, in a rented space in the Heckscher Building on Fifth Avenue. MoMA's collection encompasses over 200,000 works spanning painting, sculpture, photography, film, design, and more, from the late 19th century to the present. Notable masterpieces include Vincent van Gogh's The Starry Night, Pablo Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, and Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans. In 2023, MoMA welcomed approximately 2.8 million visitors, making it the 15th most-visited art museum in the world and the 6th most-visited in the United States.

The Kimbell Art Museum officially opened on October 4, 1972. The Kimbell Art Foundation, which owns and operates the Museum, had been established by Kay and Velma Kimbell, together with Kay’s sister and her husband, Dr. and Mrs. Coleman Carter. Join the Kimbell Art Museum to discover different larger-than-life personalities from throughout the ages!
Museums are a repository of knowledge and an important home to continued education for all. In that spirit, we will be “going back to the basics” and discuss reading, writing, and arithmetic. Each artwork on the tour will reflect the connection of art to other areas of learning and what we can glean from its representations in art.

Join us as we listen to familiar melodies and sing favorite holiday songs, share a memory of a favorite holiday food, have moments for reflection and remembering loved ones. We will hear the sound of the shofar and dip apple in honey- a symbol of the wish for ourselves and our community for a sweet New Year. | | |
