Teresa Maltz and Lucy Brinew did a great job entertaining a jolly and crafty crowd at the farm. We learned about plants that are associated with the holidays and had plenty of homemade snacks & drinks to go around.

We appreciate everyone who came out to our first kimchi making workshop. Many hearty thanks to our friend and chef at Langosta Lounge Nora Watson for taking time out of her busy schedule to show us the ropes of making her favorite Korean ferment, kimchi! The class showed some pretty impressive knife skills while Nora kept everyone busy making over 4 gallons of kimchi of which everyone took home a jar.

THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!
This season we were blessed to have the most consistent and supportive group of volunteers yet. Without fail working every Tuesday since April these forward thinking and energetic people came to give their time and energy to the farm. They weeded, planted, mulched, harvested, smashed pumpkins, turned compost, picked up trash and did backflips into our leaf pile. In the span of a few hours they planted up our sunflower lot just hours before the rain and summer heat took care of the rest; eventually leading to a most spectacular display. The gardens wouldn't have looked as good as they did this year without their efforts and the work environment wouldn't have been as joyful! From the bottom of our hearts we thank everyone who came out to volunteer at the farm this year. We're glad you like to get dirty as much as we do.
Sometime starting next year, we hope to be able to start to publicly announce weekly volunteer days.

Interfaith Neighbors'
--------------------
Holiday Party
|
|
We welcomed our wonderful colleagues from Interfaith Neighbors over to the farm for a holiday cheer and quite a few good laughs. Our director Paul McEvily can be very entertaining on moments like this, which helps bringing us all together. We wouldn't be able to run the farm without the support from the various departments within the organization. We were also informed about the development plans for the Farm Without Borders, see below. We always knew the gardens would be temporary and we are working on finding new locations to create more gardens.

Kula For Kids
Age 4 - 7
Saturday - January 22
10:30am - 12pm

Come join us as we learn a bit more about the harmful effects of plastic and why we should “skip the straw” and go plastic free!
We will make a take home craft!
A class taught by Miss Michelle Morey:
Skip the straw and save a turtle! Keeping one single straw from making it to the ocean won’t fix the problem, but imagine if everyone said “No straw, please!" Beginning on November 4, 2021, food service businesses shall only provide a single-use plastic straw to a customer upon request.

This day, Kula for Kids will take a look at energy, how it is made and where it comes from.
A class by Miss Kelly Stone:
We will dive into different types of energy and decide which types are less harmful to the environment. We will learn about an island that harnessed the wind to change their world through Allan Drummonds book Energy Island. The Kula Kids will then use that they learned to create their own wind powered vehicle from a variety of recycled materials.
