We are honored to feature Nikolai Rhodes, a junior at Hinsdale Central High School.
Nikolai is interested in philosophy, politics and history. After completing high school, he plans to pursue a degree in philosophy or political science and then onto law school. He is a member of the Hinsdale Central mock trial team, a long distance runner and enjoys playing video and board games with friends outside of school.
Nikolai’s giving and generous heart is evident through his support of just1mike. He has helped to plan, promote and attend just1mike events; has initiated ideas to further the reach and mission of just1mike and has allocated a portion of his summer work earnings to support the foundation. He shared that what he finds most rewarding about his work with just1mike is that he is putting effort in and giving funds to a charity that’s local, that he can trust and is helping to solve a significant problem which deserves more attention than it gets. “I’ve wanted to make a concrete impact on the world my whole life, and just1mike was my first really serious avenue of doing that.”
He is also making a concrete impact on the world in another very important way. With Ukrainian roots, Nikolai and his family have been personally touched by the war. We want to help share a fundraising event he has created to help support the people of Ukraine. The in-school fundraising efforts are sponsored by the HCHS Citizen Club and he is working with Hinsdale Central’s Activity Director, Sally Phillip, for the walk . All donations will be sent directly to the Ukrainian Red Cross.
The walk is open to all, not just students and donations will be collected at the event. Donations will also be accepted outside of the walk. Checks should be payable to Hinsdale Central with Ukrainian Fund in the memo line and sent to the attentions of Sally Phillip, Hinsdale Central, 5500 S. Grant St, Hinsdale, IL 60521.
