UPCOMING AT OR CHADASH

MESSAGE FROM THE RABBI

Dear Members of Or Chadash,

This Thursday our community is celebrating Israel in many different ways.  At the Raritan Valley Country Club, A Night To Celebrate Israel is taking place -- and everyone is invited  Please contact the SSB-JCC/Federation office for information.

At Or Chadash we are having a smaller celebration.  This Thursday we will be welcoming a very special guest--Juana Schnapp, the new Rishona* from Israel to meet with our 7th/8th/9th and 10th graders.

This is how Juana describes herself:

"Shalom!  My name is Juana.  I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and in 2002 I made Aliyah with my parents.  I am 18 years old.  I have a younger brother (Felipe 14) and many friends whom I met during school or in Tzofim (The Israeli Scouts).  I majored in Biology, Conflict Resolution and International Relations.  I love arts, communications, photography and film making.  I love the outdoors, especially the ocean and I'm always excited to learn new languages!"

*What is a Rishona?
Rishonim are talented young adults who are embarking on a gap year between high school graduation and their mandatory Israeli Defense Force or national service. They volunteer throughout our community in schools, synagogues, and JCCs, bringing their spirit, knowledge, and love of Israel to our community. Juana is spending part of her volunteer time at the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center (SSBJCC) in Bridgewater, NJ.

Juana will be joined at Or Chadash by Alanna Steinberg, Camp Director at the SSBJCC in Bridgewater.  (BTW:  Attention 10th Graders!  Camp Ruach (the SSBJCC day camp) is hiring Junior Counselors for Summer 2019.  Plus they provide bus transportation to Bridgewater!  For families with older siblings, Camp Ruach is also hiring 11th/12th graders  plus college students for additional camp positions.)

Parents often tell us that the post-Bar/Bat Mitzvah program sounds so good, they wish they could be a part of it.  If you would like to join us for this program -- you are welcome to do so!!

Shalom,

Rabbi Joe Forman

FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE

AMAZON SMILE AND OR CHADASH

Did you know that your Amazon purchases can benefit Or Chadash with a charitable donation from the AmazonSmile Foundation  when you shop at AmazonSmile? Or Chadash is a registered charitable organization with AmazonSmile.

What is AmazonSmile?
AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support Or Chadash every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at smile.amazon.com , you'll find the exact same low prices, vast selection and convenient shopping experience as Amazon.com, with the added bonus that the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to Or Chadash.

How do I shop at AmazonSmile?
To shop at AmazonSmile simply go to smile.amazon.com from the web browser on your computer or mobile device. You may also want to add a bookmark to smile.amazon.com to make it even easier to return and start your shopping at AmazonSmile.  Tens of millions of products on AmazonSmile are eligible for donations. You will see eligible products marked "Eligible for AmazonSmile donation" on their product detail pages..

Can I use my existing Amazon.com account on AmazonSmile?
Yes, you use the same account on Amazon.com and AmazonSmile. Your shopping cart, Wish List, wedding or baby registry, and other account settings are also the same.

How do I select Or Chadash as the charitable organization I want to support when shopping on AmazonSmile?
On your first visit to AmazonSmile smile.amazon.com , you select Or Chadash to receive donations from eligible purchases before you begin shopping. AmazonSmile will remember your selection, and then every eligible purchase you make at smile.amazon.com will result in a donation.

P.S.:  Don't forget to sign up for Amazon Smile and designate Or Chadash as your charity of choice!!

SCRIP CORNER

Announcing a NEW raffle for the months of April, May, and June!  Those who place orders each month will be eligible to win a $25 gift card!  Get in on the fun!

So far this year, our scrip orders have earned Or Chadash just over $1000.  We've had 24 families place orders.

There were 12 families who placed orders in each month -- January, February, and March -- to be eligible to win our first raffle.  And our lucky winner is.... Lisa Tauscher!  Lisa wins a $25 gift card for Lands End.  Congratulations, Lisa!  And thank you to all 12 of you who made the commitment to ordering each month!

Can scrip save the day?  Check this out:
$500 of ShopRite scrip each month for a year = $240 earnings for Or Chadash.
50 families ordering $500 of ShopRite scrip each month for a year = adds up to $12,000 earnings for OC.
We can do this!

For April, our order deadline will be Monday, April 15.  It's never too late to get in on this fundraising gem!  Scrip is another name for gift cards, and when you sign up to buy them on the shopwithscrip website, every purchase you make earns Or Chadash much-needed (free) funds.  There are hundreds of retailers, offering varying percentages back to Or Chadash.  And Or Chadash shares the benefits with you as credit on your dues.  This is truly a win-win opportunity!  Take a look at the shopwithscrip website, and please contact Christine Berg with any questions:  cberg3@comcast.net
