Dear Members of Or Chadash,

Chag Purim Sameach!

This year, Or Chadash will celebrate Purim a bit differently and we need your help completing this form:

On Sunday, February 28, we will be bringing a carnival to you via Zoom. We are looking forward to:
  • Cantor Kathy leading us in song
  • Rabbi Forman reading the Megillah (Purim Scroll)
  • a Purim Spiel (a creative play led by the talents of Andy Stein and team)
  • our EXTRA SPECIAL Purim Carnival with Conrad The Magician (thank you Christine Berg and team)

All on Zoom! These activities are for the young and the young at heart. The Zoom link will be provided and festivities will begin at 10:00 AM.

Additionally, we hope you will come to Or Chadash (149 Foothill Road) on Sunday, February 28th between 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM to pick up your Mishloach Manot / Purim Project gift bag and also to participate in our Purim Food Drive. Rabbi Forman, Betsy Zalaznick, and members of the Board of Trustees will be on hand to extend socially distanced greetings.

How does this work? Simple. Just like our High Holy Day prayerbook and Hanukkah candle distributions, which both took place on the porch, it is easy and safe. You can drive through or park your car and socialize briefly. Please wear your mask and keep appropriate distance. If you prefer to remain in your car, simply drive up to the OC circle and open your passenger window (please wear a mask). We will say hello, wish you a Happy Purim, and hand your Purim Project bag to you.

Because we are not in person for the carnival, distribution of our Purim Project bags is a bit more complicated in 2021. We need extra help this year in delivering the bags to the Or Chadash community. It is very important for us to know if you are planning on coming to Or Chadash, so we don't ask a volunteer to deliver your bag. If you are unable to pick up your Purim Project bag, please let us know so that we can be assured to have your bag delivered to your residence or so we can make appropriate arrangements (e.g. we can leave the bag on the porch bench for you to pick up later).

We are also collecting food for the needy during this season. For Hanukkah, your generosity was extraordinary; we delivered over 950 pounds of food to the Food Pantry as well as a generous envelope of supermarket gift cards. Your donations are always incredibly appreciated by the staff and clients of the Food Pantry.

Please bring a bag filled with non-perishable food items for the Food Pantries in our area when you come to Or Chadash. If you'll use pasta boxes for groggers during the Megilla reading, bring those! Members of OCTY (Or Chadash Temple Youth Group) will be on hand to help collect your donations. Given the impact of the pandemic on so many in our community, the demand on food banks has increased significantly, so your donation means that much more. Some items to include:
  • applesauce, canned beans or other vegetables,
  • canned chicken or fish, cooking oils, crackers,
  • dried herbs and spices, canned fruit, granola bars,
  • instant mashed potatoes, nuts, pasta, peanut butter,
  • rice, shelf-stable powdered milk, soups,
  • stews and chili, whole grain cereal.
  • PLEASE NO glass containers or junk food.

Wishing all of you a joyous and fun-filled Purim!

In this urgent, authoritative book, Bill Gates sets out a wide-ranging, practical-and accessible-plan for how the world can get to zero greenhouse gas emissions in time to avoid a climate catastrophe.

Bill Gates has spent a decade investigating the causes and effects of climate change. With the help of experts in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, political science, and finance, he has focused on what must be done in order to stop the planet's slide to certain environmental disaster. In this book, he not only explains why we need to work toward net-zero emissions of greenhouse gases, but also details what we need to do to achieve this profoundly important goal.

 SCRIP & FUNDRAISINGScrip_Fundraising
SCRIP CORNER

Thank you for a very respectable start to 2021 for the Scrip Program! We had 25 orders in January bringing in $438 in earnings for Or Chadash. Thank you!

Next Deadline
Deadline for ordering plastic gift cards: Monday, February 15

SCRIP FOR PURIM FOOD DRIVE
Look for details about a Food Drive collection at the end of this month, as part of our Purim festivities. We can still donate our pasta box groggers for a good cause! Food banks are always grateful for any gift cards they receive because they can use them for perishable food items as well as the most current needs. Please consider the double gift of donating a gift card and using scrip to do so! If you'd like to donate scrip to the Food Drive, you can place an order for scrip or have me place the order for you. Reach out to Christine Berg at [email protected] - happy to help!

SCRIP HABIT
As far as new habits go, ordering scrip is a great one! It's easy to get started! Check out the Scrip FAQs on the Or Chadash website. We always place orders for plastic scrip cards on the 15th of the month, so it's easy to plan your orders.
