Dear Members of Or Chadash,

The Student Outreach Program of Or Chadash has as its mission to maintain a Jewish connection for our students away from home at preparatory, college or graduate schools. Students will be mailed a treat symbolic for some of the Jewish holidays. Students tell us each year how much they look forward to these packages and how comforting it is to know that they are still important to our Or Chadash Family.

We create a new “Student Address List” each year, so all interested parents should send in their child’s address for the coming year as soon as possible. You must submit this each year, even if there has not been a change. You will notice that there is space for an email address and cell phone so we can notify them to be on the lookout for a package.

OCTY Welcome Back Event

It was great to get so many of our teens together for OCTY's Welcome Back Event last Sunday! After enjoying bagels, apple cider donuts, apple cider, and special apple-designed cookies from Betsy, our teens talked about planning the next few months' worth of events and then worked together on a Rosh Hashanah mitzvah. Shhhhh... you might just be receiving an apple-printed postcard in the mail!

Or Chadash thanks them for their help!

NEXT UP - High Holy Days Food Drive:

For our teens attending in-person services for Rosh Hashanah, we could use some helpers to distribute food donation wish lists.

  • Sunday, September 25 @ 8:00pm
  • Monday, September 26 @ 10:00am
  • Monday, September 26 @ 3:00pm

LOOKING AHEAD - Food bag collection:

We'll need some teens to help with collecting the food bag donations at our Yom Kippur services.

  • Tuesday, October 4 @ 8:00pm
  • Wednesday, October 5 @ 10:00am
  • Wednesday, October 5 @ 2:00pm

Thanks in advance for supporting this great opportunity for our teens to do a wonderful mitzvah that continues to be a youth-group tradition!

Tell Congress to End Discrimination Against Pregnant Workers

Our Jewish tradition demands in the strongest possible terms the protection of all workers as a matter of justice. We are taught that “one who withholds an employee’s wages is as though he deprived him of his life” (Baba Metzia 112a). Pregnant workers who do not have the protection of pregnancy accommodations face wage withholding in the form of unpaid leave, lost benefits, or even firing—all as they are about to welcome a new child into the family. Our Jewish tradition compels us to not be complacent in the face of economic injustice, but instead to advocate for policies that help to ensure economic stability for everyone in our society.

End-of-summer greetings to all!

Hope any transitions to Fall/school/new routines in your households are going well!

We had 20 orders in August, earning $341 for Or Chadash! That includes plastic gift cards and eGift card orders throughout the month.

Thank you so much!

Next deadline for ordering plastic gift cards is Saturday, October 15th.
