NORFOLK – Kempsville Road is scheduled to close in both directions under I-264 for two weekends and several weeknights beginning in late January for work on the I-64/I-264 Interchange Improvements Project.
Traffic will be detoured via Newtown Road and Center Drive during the closures. The detours are scheduled for the following times:
- First Weekend: 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, to 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28
- Weeknights: 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. the evenings of Jan. 28, 29, 30 and 31
- Second Weekend: 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, to 5 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4
- Additional dates could be added if necessary to complete the work.
The sidewalks on both sides of Newtown Road will also be closed to pedestrians at the I-264 underpass for the public's safety during the detours. The closures are required for work over Kempsville Road.
Access to entrances to the churches in the immediate vicinity of the lane closures (First
Baptist Norfolk and Calvary Presbyterian) and their parking lots will remain open.
