"As an 18-year-old with severe anxiety and being unable to drive, meeting similar people to me close to my age has been especially difficult. Through the Youth Leadership Forum, I learned about disabilities and different acts, but also made new friends. It also made me more confident when talking to people, especially people with authority, about what I need to be successful. After I signed up, I was extremely nervous, thinking people were going to be judgmental. Luckily, nobody was, which made it safe for everyone. As anxious as I was, I wouldn't change my experience. I would highly encourage people to attend it because it is a wonderful event." - R.P. YLF Alumni

Reminder: NYS Children's Medicaid System A FREE Discussion with Children & Families
|
New York State (NYS) invites Children and Families who are:
- Getting children's Medicaid services for mental health or substance abuse; OR
- Are enrolled in the new Medicaid Children's Waiver * that started on April 1, 2019
to in-person events about the Children's Medicaid System Transformation, including new Medicaid services and the move to Medicaid Managed Care.
NYS wants to make sure that Medicaid services work best for children and families. This means making sure that youth have access to all of the services they need, and that their health care services treat the whole person.
It also means youth and families have a say in what services they want, where services are delivered, and how services are provided.
The NYS Department of Health and Offices of Mental Health (OMH), Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), Children and Family Services (OCFS), and People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) have scheduled this meeting this summer for families to share thoughts, ask questions and get more information.

Suicide Prevention Among School-Age Children Webinar
Date/Time: Thursday, June 27th | 12-1 PM
Presenters: Arielle H. Sheftall, PhD
The majority of available information on suicide and suicidal behavior in kids focuses on late childhood and adolescence. However, examining suicidal behaviors in school-age children provides an opportunity to inform prevention and intervention programs for youth at high risk. Given the reported prevalence of suicide attempts and suicide deaths in this age group, 5 to 11 years old, it is imperative that mental health providers are informed and prepared to address suicide-related concerns to support young children and their families. This webinar will focus on suicide prevention among school-age children and tips for clinicians.
The goals for this webinar are to:
-
Provide a brief overview on the prevalence of suicide and suicidal behavior in school-age children
-
Review the available research and findings for this population
-
Highlight specific therapeutic models and intervention programs that may help clinicians support young children at-risk for suicide or feeling suicidal
-
Discuss implications for mental health practice with children and families

Project Safe Point is a Harm Reduction program who strives to improve the health and quality of life of people who use drugs in the greater Capital Region of New York State. Using a non-judgmental compassionate approach Project Safe Point addresses the immediate and long-term health and safety of their participants.
As their program continues to grow, they remain forever grateful to the community for its support and to their participants, staff, peers and volunteers for caring
enough about the health and safety needs of people who use drugs to do what they do!Project Safe Point began in 2008 in response to an unmet need for sterile
syringe access and harm reduction services in the Capital Region. Initially, the program began in partnership with Centro Civico's Project Needle Smart as a way to expand accessibility of syringe disposal kiosks then expanded to include our Pharmacy Syringe
Access services.
In 2010, Project Safe Point began the region's first Syringe Exchange program in the South End and Arbor Hill sections of the city of Albany.
Our most recent site expansion in 2015 included the city of Troy, with plans to grow into additional areas as well.
