Please come out and show your support for Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez as he delivers his 3rd annual State of the District Address, this year with a focus on all of Northern Manhattan, river-to-river. Council Member Rodriguez will discuss the accomplishment of the past year, current work and the plans for the future of the district. There will be short performances and additional speakers as well. The New York City Department of Transportation is accepting applications for its neighborhood slow zone project. This places speed limits within a radius of a few blocks in residential areas meant to slow down drivers who put residents at risk. Now you can decide where these slow zones are most needed. Suspended A Train Service for Weekends in April
April 5-8, 12-15, 19-22, 26-29
From 11:45pm Friday nights to 5:00am Monday mornings, A train service between 168th and 207th Street will be suspended due to track work. Instead, commuters can use either shuttle buses running periodically between the two stops, or the 1 train.
Columbia University Summer Sports Program Lottery

Columbia University's Summer Sports Program is now accepting applications for Washington Heights and Inwood Kids! Applications will be accepted until May 3rd. This is a great opportunity for kids to stay active and healthy outdoors this summer at an Ivy League college sports facility here in the neighborhood. Applications should be turned in at Inwood Community Services, the Police Athletic League or Community League of the Heights.

State Senator Adriano Espaillat, Assembly Member Gabriela Rosa and Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez will be holding a town hall meeting for the community to engage and provide input about issues in the neighborhood. Representatives from NYPD, FDNY, Manhattan DA, DOT, DOS, MTA, HPD, Washington Heights BID, CB12, CEC6, EPA, Parks and Rec, etc. have been invited to answer questions. This event is your opportunity to let your voice be heard!

New York Cares seeks Volunteers
New York Cares is a community based organization focusing on educational programming for students, parents and community members at the school. They have initiated a one year partnership with PS 336M and are looking for volunteers to help teach and tutor. Spanish speakers are encouraged to help out but dual-language ability is not required.
Volunteers will help to engage students in English conversation tutoring, to assist them in their learning the language. All programming is team based so volunteers will not be one on one with pupils. Curriculum and materials will be provided and a short 30 minute training session will prepare volunteers for their work. Volunteers must be 18 years or older. Denim Day NYC: Daily News Oped Contest and Rally Against Sexual Assault
Submission Deadline: April 8th, 2013 5PM

In a new initiative sponsored by the borough presidents of all 5 boroughs of New York City, Denim Day NYC is a citywide day against Sexual Assault. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and in recognition, the New York Daily News is offering a $500 prize to one undergraduate student from each borough in their oped writing contest. Students are asked to write on the topic of: "Telling the Truth About Sexual Violence"

WHIN Youth Orchestra Recruiting Young Musicians
Every Saturday 3pm-6pm (3-4:30 for younger kids)
United Palace Cathedral 4140 Broadway (175th St. and Bway)
A new classical music program in Northern Manhattan seeks local musicians ages 7-23 with experience playing string, brass, and wind instruments to join a youth orchestra housed at the United Palace.
As well as being taught by dedicated instructors, WHIN Youth Orchestra members will also be mentored by experienced and renowned musicians from both the immediate community as well as abroad. WHIN Youth Orchestra's network includes The Orchestra of St. Luke's, New England Conservatory, and the Scandia Symphony.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Uptown Arts Stroll. For 10 years, the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance has celebrated the vibrant artwork produced at home in Northern Manhattan, an area rife with talent and creativity. This event provides an opportunity for artists to show their work across the neighborhood in small businesses, offices, places of worship, restaurants and community centers.
