West County events to help residents get back on their feet
Improving lives in West County and building our local economy requires smart investments in our residents, especially strategies that empower those who are underserved.

Here are two upcoming events to help achieve this goal.

* Contra Costa County Clean Slate Day 2016 is scheduled for Saturday, March 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church at 684 Juliga Woods Street in Richmond.

Attorneys from the County Public Defender's Office will be on hand to help clear certain criminal records, which can be a barrier to employment and housing. Walk-ups are welcome, but you must submit an application by March 11 if you want to have your record expunged at the event. Call (925) 335-8075 or email for more information.

* Saffron Strand's 7th Annual Homeless Workforce Conference is scheduled for June 13-14 at the Richmond Memorial Auditorium. Titled "Working with the Homeless: How to Survive & Thrive in the Trenches," organizers are seeking workshop proposals for the conference. Topics sought include those that address vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, and PTSD in professionals and others working in social service fields.

Proposals are due by March 30. For more information, click here or contact Yvonne Nair at (510) 778-9492 or
