I captured these images of the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) over the past six years in Tromso, Norway using a variety of cameras, lenses, techniques, and most of all a lot of patience. The best “season” for viewing the Northern Lights in Tromso often coincides with a lot of snow and general cloudiness. Venturing out some nights was sometimes pointless, because of cloud cover and precipitation, but the volatile and rapidly changing weather patterns of the Arctic often proved to produce pockets of clear skies for at least small portions of the night, giving me and my colleagues a good window of opportunity to make stunning photographs.
