Fairbanks Fish and Game Indoor Range - Walk-in Public Hours
Walk-in Public Use Hours at the Fairbanks Fish and Game Indoor Range are open for the 2022-2023 Regular (Fall/Winter/Spring) Season. The range is located at 1501 College Road, just West of Danby Street and South of Creamer's Refuge/College Road.

Open days and hours for the 2022-2023 Regular Season are scheduled as follows *:

September 17, 2022, through Friday, May 12, 2023

WED: 4-7 p.m.
THR: 12-2 and 4-7 p.m.
FRI: 12-2 and 4-7 p.m.
SAT: 1-4 and 5-8 p.m. (closed 4-5 p.m.)
SUN: 1-4 and 5-8 p.m. (closed 4-5 p.m.)

League shooting is scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m., after public use hours, on Wed and Fri, for much of the season.

CLOSED DAYS (thru Jan 1, 2023):

  • Thursday, November 24 - Closed for Thanksgiving
  • Saturday and Sunday, December 24-25 - Closed for Christmas
  • Saturday and Sunday, December 31 and January 1 (2023) - Closed for New Year's

Concealed Carry Training
The Alaska Interior Marksmanship Committee (AIM-COMM), the range's nonprofit partner organization, is now offering Concealed Carry Training with a combination NRA CCW and Alaska Concealed Handgun Permit (ACHP) class. This training opportunity is open to adult citizens, 21 years of age or older, who may legally possess a handgun in the state of Alaska.

Upcoming Classes:

  • Sat and Sun, November 26-27, 2022 - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day
  • Sat and Sun, January 28-29, 2023 - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day

This training teaches the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to carry a concealed pistol for personal defense and is approved by the State of Alaska, Department of Public Safety, to meet the requirements for application for an Alaska Concealed Handgun Permit. The NRA CCW Course is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience. This instructor-led course gives you direct instruction from an NRA-certified and State of Alaska approved instructor or team of instructors. 

This course will be conducted in a comfortable classroom setting and includes time in the live fire range with an Instructor. Course topics include Firearm Safety, Pistol Nomenclature and Selecting a Pistol for Self-Defense, Basic Defensive Pistol Skills, Drawing from Concealment, Loading and Stoppage Remediation, Mindset, Carry Modes and Pistol Concealment, Firearm Cleaning, and Sport Shooting and Training Activities.

Students will receive reference books, take an NRA CCW Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor along with a course certificate valid for submission with your application to the State of Alaska for a concealed handgun permit.

After successfully completing the class, the student will leave with the required paperwork (completed, and ready to deliver, with the addition of the fee required by the state), to obtain their Alaska Concealed Handgun Permit. All class materials are provided, including the use of firearms and ammunition to complete the live-fire qualification.

Range Safety Officer (RSO) Certification Course - Dec 1 & 2 (Thr/Fri)
This nationally recognized NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) training/certification course is scheduled for December 1 and 2 (Thursday and Friday), 2022, from 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM each evening, at the ADF&G Hunter Education Indoor Shooting Range, 1501 College Rd, Fairbanks.

The NRA Range Safety Officer course is designed to cover the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations; some ranges and programs require live-fire be supervised by a certified RSO.

This NRA safety course is conducted in a classroom and is not a shooting course. You must be 21 years of age or older to become certified as an NRA RSO. Range Safety Officer candidates will learn roles and responsibilities of an RSO; Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); range inspection; range rules; range briefings; emergency procedures; and firearm stoppages and malfunctions.

Winter "Bullseye" Pistol Leagues - starting in January
Registration is now open for AIM-COMM's 2023 Winter NRA Precision "Bullseye" Pistol Leagues.

Participation in the leagues is open to safe and responsible shooters, ages 10 and older, who have a range ID number which is issued by completing the range orientation and safety briefing at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game Hunter Education Indoor Shooting Range in Fairbanks, Alaska, during walk-in public hours.

Centerfire Pistol - Wed evenings
.22 Rimfire Pistol - Fri evenings

Each league includes a Practice Match, five regular Matches, a Tournament, and a Potluck/Awards event.

Organizational Meeting is Friday, January 6, at 7 p.m. at the Fairbanks Fish and Game Indoor Range, 1501 College Rd.

Harry Reeves Memorial Revolver Match - Fri Nov 25
A shooter participating in a Harry Reeves memorial revolver shoot at the Fairbanks Fish and Game Range.
Harry Reeves, a legendary pistol shooter famed for his talents with a revolver, won six NRA National Pistol Championship titles.

Though Reeves passed on years ago, competitive revolver shoots are routinely held around the country in memory of the man, the gun, and the sport, including national matches at Camp Perry.

AIM-COMM typically conducts several Harry Reeves Memorial Revolver Shoots each year. All revolver, all centerfire, all open sight, and all one-handed!

Only safe, center-fire revolvers, with iron sights, and maximum caliber of .45 (range limit) may be fired in this competition. Magnum pistols are allowed but no magnum ammunition may be used in this match.

When:
Friday, November 25 - the day after Thanksgiving
9:30 a.m. start (please arrive 15 minutes prior)

Cost:
$15.00. Please bring $15.00 to the match in the form of cash, or a check made out to AIM-COMM.

NRA Basic Metallic Cartridge Reloading Classes
Registration open for NRA Basic Reloading Courses!

This course teaches beginning reloaders - or those interested in reloading - the basic Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude necessary to safely reload metallic cartridges.

This full-day class is not a live-fire course; no shooting is involved, and no firearms are permitted in the classroom for reloading classes. Each student is taught reloading safety; centerfire cartridge components; using the reloading manual and reloading data; equipment; and the metallic cartridge reloading process. Students receive the NRA Guide to Reloading handbook, the Basic Reloading Student Exam, a course completion certificate, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and a Basic Firearm Training Program brochure.

AIM-COMM and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) Hunter Education Indoor Shooting Range (HEDR), in Fairbanks, Alaska, work cooperatively to host and conduct NRA Basic Metallic Cartridge Reloading Classes for the public.

Marksmanship Qualification Program (MQP)
Have you earned your Distinguished Expert rating for 2022 yet in one or more of the NRA Marksmanship Qualifications administered at the range? We offer .22 Rifle (non-magnum), Pistol (.22 or centerfire), and Bullseye Pistol. Check out the website or inquire with a range staff member during public hours to get started or to check to see where you left off.

Start the MQP at the range in 2022 and earn Distinguished Expert before the end of December 2022, and you could win a new fir earm award: a new Ruger rifle for the .22 Rifle Qual or a new Glock pistol for the Pistol or Bullseye Qual!

Hunter Education Classes
Hunter Education courses are scheduled and available throughout 2022-2023. Courses included Basic Hunter Education, Bow Hunter Education, Muzzleloader Hunter Education, and Crossbow Hunter Education. Hunter education courses provide training in firearms safety, wildlife conservation, and respect for our natural resources, landowners, and other hunters.
