“Our Old Schools” Opens at the Damascus Heritage Museum

The current exhibit at the Damascus Heritage Museum, entitled “Our Old Schools,” opened on February 4. It features information on more than 20 one- and two-room schools in the Damascus area that became the current school system. The museum is located at 9701A Main Street (behind the Damascus Library/Senior Center) Hours of operation are Wednesday and Saturday, noon to 4PM. Admission is free. The exhibit will be on display through May 31.

Sixth Annual ‘Girl Power Contest’ Recognizing March as Women’s History Month Accepting Entries Through Friday, March 31

In recognition of March as Women’s History Month, the Montgomery County Commission for Women, Montgomery County Public Libraries and Friends of the Library, Montgomery County is holding its Sixth Annual “Girl Power Contest.” County residents, ages 5 and up, are encouraged to submit a short story, poem, drawing or entry in the medium of their choice that addresses this year’s theme.

Entries can be submitted starting March 1. Entries must be submitted by midnight on Friday, March 31. Read More.

Camps and Special Activities Will Be Offered by Montgomery Parks During Montgomery County Public Schools’ Spring Break

Schedule and Education Sessions Announced for 10th Annual Montgomery County Energy Summit That Will Be Held March 28-29 in Silver Spring

The schedule and education sessions for the 10th Annual Montgomery County Energy Summit were announced this week, with focus on preparing the commercial building community for compliance with energy benchmarking, building energy performance standards and emerging building codes. The summit will take place in-person on March 28 and 29 at the Silver Spring Civic Building. Read more.

Low-to-moderate income Montgomery County residents may be eligible for free tax income tax preparation assistance from the Community Action Agency’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) partnership. VITA hosts tax preparation assistance for households earning $60,000 or less. Read More.
