As cases of COVID-19 and monkeypox continue to increase around the nation and in Maryland, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich talks about taking precautionary steps to prevent infection from each. He encourages residents to attend two upcoming health fairs, and he takes pride in another successful season of the County’s ‘Summer Rise’ program. The County Executive also notes the increase in new laboratory space in the county, with the most recent expansion of Accellx, which is a success story of our county incubators. Annual Montgomery County Agricultural Fair to be Held Over Nine Days from Aug. 12-20
The annual Montgomery County Agricultural Fair will be held over nine days for Aug. 12-20 at the Montgomery County Agricultural Center fairgrounds in Gaithersburg. The fairgrounds are located at 501 Perry Parkway in Gaithersburg. General admission is $15 onsite and $12 online. Children 11-and-under are free. Parking on the fairgrounds site is $10. Free parking with shuttle bus service to the fairgrounds is available from nearby Lakeforest Mall at Lost Knife Road and Odenhal Ave. Read More.

Award-Winning Images by the Maryland Photography Alliance on Display at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg Through Sept. 5
The award-winning images from the Maryland Photography Alliance will be on display through Sept. 5 at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park in Gaithersburg. The exhibition is part of “Photography Across the City,” which also includes displays at Kentlands Mansion and the Arts Barn.
Bohrer Park is located at 506 South Frederick Ave. in Gaithersburg. Viewing hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Read More.

Call to Artists for Maryland Waterways Exhibit to be on Display from October to January at Benjamin Gaither Center Art Gallery in Gaithersburg
The City of Gaithersburg and the Arts Alliance of the Gaithersburg Parks, Arts and Recreation Corporation (G-PARC) are seeking artists to participate in the “Maryland Waterways” exhibit that will be at the Benjamin Gaither Center Gallery in Gaithersburg from October through January. Any artist residing in Maryland is eligible to apply to be part of the show. Entries by those under 18 require that a parent or guardian submit the application. There is no fee to enter. Popular Whodunit Game at ‘Clue the Musical’ Will Be at Gaithersburg Arts Barn Aug. 5-21
Clue the Musical, based on a book by Peter DiPietro and with music by Galen Blum, Wayne Barker and Vinnie Martucci, will be performed on weekends during Aug. 5-21 at the Gaithersburg Arts Barn. Bring your gardening questions, plant materials or mystery insect to one of the Plant Clinics staffed by Montgomery County Master Gardeners, held on Wednesdays between April 27 through the end of September in the lobby on the first floor of the Germantown library. These volunteers have had training in soil and plant science, tree and shrub identification, integrated pest management, plant diseases and insect pests.

New Preregistration Survey Now in Place for Monkeypox Vaccines, but in Limited Supply
Monkeypox continues to be an infection of growing concern in Montgomery County and around the nation. Montgomery County has a limited supply of monkeypox vaccine and has established a new preregistration survey to identify residents who are interested in receiving a vaccination and are at risk for having been exposed to monkeypox in the previous four to 14 days. 2022 Primary Election Update: Mail-In Ballots Now Being Counted and Provisional Ballots Will Not Be Counted Until July 27
The Montgomery County Board of Elections is reminding voters that the unofficial results released on the Board’s website on election night, July 19, for the 2022 Gubernatorial Primary contain only votes cast during Early Voting (July 7-14) and at polling places on Election Day. Mail-in are being counted in a public process by bipartisan teams that started on Thursday, July 21. Read More

Ride On Bus Service to Resume Collecting Fares on Monday, Aug. 1, with New Rate Set at $1
After 28 months of temporarily suspending fare collection due to the COVID-19 health crisis, the Montgomery County Department of Transportation's (MCDOTs) Ride On bus system will resume fare collection on Monday, Aug. 1, on all services, including Ride On, Ride On extRa, Flex, and Flash. Free Tax Help Available for Income-Eligible County Residents Through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program
The Community Action Agency's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, Montgomery County’s only year-round VITA program, is offering free tax help for the current year (2021), prior years (2018-20) and for amended returns. Virtual and in-person appointments are available for County residents with household incomes of $58,000 or less. Read More

Germantown Community Recreation Center to Close this Summer for Roof Replacement
The Germantown Community Recreation Center, located at 18905 Kingsview Road will close this summer for a roofing project. The Center will close on Wednesday, June 22 and is scheduled to reopen Thursday, Aug. 18.
All programming scheduled to take place at the Center throughout the closure will take place at alternate locations, with the exception of early voting. The Center will remain open as an Early Voting location from July 7 – 14.

COVID-19 Remains a Community Concern and County Continues to Distribute Free Vaccines, Rapid Test Kits and Masks
Montgomery County had an average of about 50 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people at this time last year. For the last several weeks, the County is averaging more than 200 reported cases per 100,000 residents. The County, like the national trend, is seeing reinfections in some residents and health officials say that natural immunity is not as strong as the immunity people get from vaccination and boosters. Fourth Phase of COVID-19 Rent Relief Program: Previously Incomplete and New Applications Will Be Accepted
The fourth phase of Montgomery County’s COVID-19 rent relief program has reopened and is now accepting applications from eligible renters who either did not fully complete their previously submitted application or want to submit a new application for review. Read more.

County Offering COVID-19 Vaccines to Children 6 Months to 5 Years
Montgomery County continues to vaccinate children ages 6 months to 5 years old. To date, nearly 5,000 children in this age group have been vaccinated. Parents are encouraged to protect their children and get them vaccinated. Read More.

COVID-19 Updates: Boosters Available for 5-11 Year Olds, Mulitple Testing Options Available, Continue Preventative Measures as COVID-19 Has Not Ended
Additonal COVID-19 booster shots for children ages 5-11 were recently approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and County-operated clinics are providing them for children who had their second dose at least five months ago. Read More
