Update on our AC situation.
Thank you kittens

Dear members and friends:

Here is an update on the AC situation, please forgive us for the delay but we have been insanely busy.

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU ANGELS that sent donations AND A WONDERFUL ANGEL THAT UPFRONT IT US THE MONEY, THE ANIMALS NOW HAVE AIR CONDITIONING AND HEAT

YEAY!
We got $ 1, 300.00 in donations so far, it is needless to say that donations are still needed to pay back the ANGEL (that wants to remain anonymous) that gave us the rest of the money to install the AC.
On behalf of the animals at HPR,  I now that thank you is not enough, but THANK YOU, MUCHAS GRACIAS, MERCI BEAUCOUP, DANKSCHEN, GRACIE, to all of you who made this possible, from the bottom of my heart for your beautiful hearts and deep caring for those who have no voice.
You are all ANGELS!
And as I always say may all the good you do comes back to you in more ways than one.
Special thanks to Mike's AC Service for accommodating us in such short notice.
We have put a little phot collage together for you belo where you will see with Mike the AC company in action installing the AC and some of the kitties saying THANK YOU, unfortunately we couldn't fit all of the kitties the photo. :)
Thank you again, we couldn't do what we do without you.
Before I go I will like to say that very soon, we will resume sending our monthly newsletters, please be patient with us, things have been crazy around here and we cannot catch a break.

Dear all,

Yesterday I sent and e-mail requesting donations for the replacing of the air conditioning unit at our shelter.

Here is the update:
From over 1000 members only 2 donors have sent a donation one for $ 25.00 and the other for $ 10.00.

Many of you had questions that I will answer below, but before that I will like to say that this is truly urgent and we really, really need your help.
See being without AC and having 60 + cats is not a good thing at all, we have many animals that suffer from herpes virus and it already stated to re-surface.
And yes, they are all on daily L-Lysine, is part of their diet, but with L-Lysine and all they are starting to get sick.
Two cats were hospitalized last week, 2 rushed to the vet and 6 (2 of them seniors) have started to sneeze as of yesterday and to get discharge from their eyes.
Regardless of treatments and the best vet care if we do not have AC, illnesses are going to keep happening and the seniors, special needs, and youngsters can get very ill even die.
The ones hospitalized, already cost it us over $ 2,000.00 in vet bills, I will be happy to send the vet bill to upon request.

Now here are some questions that people have asked.

Question: Why not put a portable unit or a wall unit?

Response: We have covered all angles with the 3 AC companies that came to give us a bid, they all said the same thing.
We have too many animals, the space is too big, we have no walls to install a wall unit, all of our walls are glass (french doors).
The only solid wall we have butts with the neighbors house.
A portable unit is NOT safe as the animals can knock it down, we just cannot leave it on when we are no there, in the summer is not possible.
A portable unit needs venting out, we just do not have anywhere to put the vent.
The companies also said that unless is central air with the amount of animals we have and the hair, the units will deteriorate very quickly and will break down quick.

We also inquired about the ductless split units that are now on the market, same story above, they will break down quickly and the parts are not cheap!
We also have to watch our electric bill, running a wall unit 24/7 will run a very high electric bill.

Another question: Why not move?
Response: Moving is not an answer, these animals have move 3 times in 5 years, moving is not only very expensive but is also very stressful on the animals.
I am hoping and praying that we can stay here for many years, the animals are happy here is a stress free location in the city but away from everything.
Moving costs money too, is it really worth moving all the animals, putting them through un-necessary stress.
It took us almost 4 months to find this property after extensive research.
Is not easy to find a place that will allow the amount of animals we have, and find a neighborhood that is safe for us and for the animals!
The last move it ended up costing us far more than $ 3, 000.00.
First month, last month and security deposit alone was alone $ 3,000.00

Question: Why would the landlord benefit from a new AC unit, when he doesn't want to pay for it.

Answer: I cannot think if the AC unit in the end is going to benefit the landlord, it will in the end I know, but I need to think of the animals.
Hopefully we will stay here for many years and we will get full benefit of the AC unit, but if we don't for whatever reason, as I said I have to think of these animals first, and not have them in the middle suffering just because of humans disputes, because of humans these animals are in our shelter to begin with!
I cannot just sit and wait for the situation to get resolved, this needs immediate attention, a month has elapsed already since the AC broke, it just cannot wait any longer.
That said we really need to get the AC working there is no delays and no buts.
Well there is just one but we just do not have the funding for this, we really need contributions to come in for this, please help.

Hope I have answered everyone's questions and hope and pray that you can help us.
If you have anymore questions please do not hesitate to ask, we are here to answer them.

Please also know that we have contacted Trane, Carrier, Amana, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. all of the major AC supplies for a donated AC unit and they all deny it.
Here is one reply, we cannot put them all here, this it will make this e-mail longer than already is:

As I said, we left asking for donations as a last resort, the breaking of the AC happened a month ago.

Dear Celene Albano,

Original e-mail sent to members on January 30, 12
Dear members and friends:

We hope everyone is doing well, please forgive that we have been a bit out of touch, things have been crazy busy around here, lots has happened
in a short period of time.
First our dear friend and only shelter employee Teresa, that has been with us and our animals for many years, has suffered a terrible stroke she is now better and is home, but her mind is just not the same and her recovery will be very long, please we ask that you keep her in your prayers.
Ever since this happened there is not much time for anything but to attend to the animals at the shelter all of our time is spent there, not leaving much time for e-mail, newsletters and so forth,  please accept our apology for not being there for all of you like we always are or try to be, hopefully things will get back to normal soon.
If you have a minute, please keep Teresa in your prayers.

Anyway, I am writing to all today to ask yet once more for your help, yes helping hands are needed!

A couple of volunteers are needed for the afternoon shift, mainly for Friday Saturdays and Sundays.
If you can lend a helping hand please send e-mail HPRESQ@aol.com and put "volunteer" on the subject line.
Please note that people willing to volunteer will be background checked, unless of course we know you personally.
Volunteers MUST LIKE CATS, be responsible, be willing to learn, follow protocol and most of all have a great attitude.:)

Now the below is of extreme urgency.
Our central air conditioning unit has shut down and is beyond repair, needs to be replaced.
Our landlord stated that he simply doesn't have the money to replace the unit, how do you like that!
We send him to our attorney, our attorney wrote letters, send e-mails and so forth, as of yet nothing got resolved.
WE MUST PROCEED at this point with the replacement of the unit ourselves for the sake of the animals, unfortunately we do not have a choice.
The animals always come first, legal stuff can take month's and we do not have that kind of time, plus we are located in FL. even though the weather has been cooler than usual is still pretty warm, specially when 60 + animals live under the same roof.
It has been almost a month since the AC broke down, we just cannot wait longer.
I was really hoping that the landlord will come through and that I didn't have to send this plea out, since that didn't happen please accept my sincere apology for having to ask for your help yet once more.
We have too many cats (many special needs), the space is not huge, no AC brings illnesses that we do not need nor want.
Please if you can help by donating anything at all it will be highly appreciate it by these animals and us.
The cost of the replacement AC unit is $ 2, 950.00 please see:
Thank you in advance for your caring, support and generosity.
Whatever amount you can donate it will help, God Bless you all.
