Gary Flory is the Agricultural Program Manager for the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. In this role, Gary provides leadership on numerous issues surrounding the nexus of agriculture, the environment and public health. Gary also founded  G.A. Flory Consulting , a global consulting firm, to help clients with a range of services including animal disease and natural disaster response, agricultural emergency planning, and emergency response training. Gary has conducted trainings, given presentations and deployed on numerous animal disease outbreaks around the country and internationally in the Dominican Republic, Vietnam, Tunisia, Korea, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and Azerbaijan. He also serves as a technical reviewer and subject matter expert on agricultural issues for a variety of organizations including the United States Department of Agriculture and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.  

Ava Grace Flory is a high school sophomore and will be attending the Massanutten Regional Governor’s School for Integrated Environmental Science and Technology in the fall. Ava Grace has been engaged in applied science since middle school. Her projects include participating in a Virginia/North Carolina African Swine Fever research team, the design and construction of a 3-D model of the Above Ground Burial system displayed at numerous international conferences as far away as South Korea, presenting at the University of Delaware's International Poultry Disease Response Certificate Symposium, and conducting a One Health Day webinar for the International Student One Health Alliance. Ava Grace hopes to pursue a career in science or medicine. In addition to her interest in science, Ava Grace enjoys participating in school and community theater.
