Ensuring that working from home is as regulated as it is in the office. Employees, especially those in the younger age bracket, living in rented accommodation do not have sufficient internal space or access to outdoor space.

There are stories of people working from laptops on ironing boards. Correct seating, adequate work surface, keyboard technique, posture, position of screen, use of support devices, software setting, non-reflective screens, the environment e.g. lighting and heating levels, importance of regular breaks, setting a routine. When working from home it can be easy to blur the lines between work and home life.

There is much talk of air corridors/traffic light system and Europe being open for tourism again, dependent on the vaccination programme and the safety of the issuing country.  Would you feel happy to go abroad? Maybe another staycation this year, but the costs are prohibitive?   There is much talk of queues at airports, the cost of testing at airports – is air travel becoming a privilege of the wealthy, as it used to be?

Speakers:

  • Kate Bull, Hounslow Council
  • John Coles, Kew Bridge Travel
  • Maggi Smit, America & Canada as you like it
  • Deborah Barnes, Clayton Hotel - executive travel market
  • Deepak Nangla, Brightsun

Fit to Bid: Branduin Business Support

Business Model Canvas - Innovation & Strategy

Tuesday 25th May 10:00 am – 11:00 am

Book Here

Having successfully delivered this webinar as an interactive Business Sprint to several audiences over the past 5 years, we have had tremendous positive feedback to our approach. SMEs find the Business Model Canvas very useful to develop a strategy to adapt or launch new products and services, and improve their state of preparedness prior to bid submission.

We will help you develop a graphical, 1-page framework that allows an SME to design, describe and/or challenge their business model prior to bidding for contracts.

The individual elements prompt consideration of the full scope of a business, while the layout encourages thought about how the pieces fit together across nine essential components.

Speakers:

  • Nauzar Manekshaw, Managing Director - Branduin
  • Elsa Caleb - Business Development Specialist

Assessing the team’s mental health. Having worked from home for over the past 12 months, re-entry into the office world could cause problems for some. We are adaptable, but we must not underestimate the effect that the pandemic has had on us.  Existing problems have only been exacerbated, especially for younger people, who have not been able to socialise for over a year.

Keeping communication channels open, setting regular times to meet with the team, either via Zoom or Teams, or even the telephone for one to ones. Share screen is an invaluable tool for working on joint documents.

When offices begin to re-open, asses to see if hybrid working is possible. Listen to the concerns of employees but encourage them to return in part. Much peer group learning is lost working from home.

Speakers:

  • Jacqueline McCouat,  Anchor Counselling
  • Vidya Netrakar, NKV Holistic Living
  • Further speakers tbc

On behalf of Hounslow Rotary Club I would like to thank those readers of your newsletter that responded to our appeal recently for funds to be sent to India to combat Covid-19. We will be making a fully illustrated detailed report asap, but to start with I need to report that £17000 was raised in less than 10 days and this will be transferred by the end of this week to the Rotarians supporting the hospital. They are already sourcing the equipment and supplies they need. Please thank everyone for their support. - Brigitte Faubert
