Dear Student Affairs Colleagues,
As we head into the week, I know a lot is happening around us and in the world. I want to take a moment to center on the work ahead, check in with you, and move forward with clarity and care. I also want to thank you for your ongoing commitment, flexibility, and care for one another and our students as we continue navigating this period of transition together. I'm inspired that we remain grounded in our shared goal of delivering more cohesive and coordinated support across Student Affairs.
With that in mind, I’m writing to share interim leadership assignments, effective immediately, that will ensure operational continuity and uphold our compliance responsibilities in key areas:
-
Dr. Jonathan Tyner will be serving as Dean – Round Rock Campus and will take on the additional role of Interim Manager – International Student Admission.
-
Dr. Tony Wright will serve as Interim Executive Dean – South Region, while continuing in his role as Dean – Rio Grande Campus.
In recent months, we’ve carefully assessed how best to support the critical work of our International Student Services Office. I want to thank our talented team for their continued commitment to serving our international students, ensuring proper documentation, offering subject-matter expertise, and candidly sharing how we can strengthen our institutional support.
Following the departure of our previous International Student Services Manager, a leadership vacancy was created that required swift action. To remain in compliance with federal regulations, our institution must have a Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) in place to represent the college in all federal matters. From both a regulatory and risk management standpoint, this is a critical function that cannot remain vacant. Dr. Jonathan Tyner brings the direct experience and qualifications necessary to step into this role immediately. In addition to his responsibilities as Dean of the Round Rock Campus, he will serve as Interim Manager of International Student Admissions and PDSO.
Recognizing that three interim assignments would be unsustainable for one individual, we have asked Dr. Tony Wright to step in as Interim Executive Dean for the South Region. This allows Dr. Tyner to focus on leading the Round Rock Campus and supporting our International Student Services Office, ensuring continuity, compliance, and thoughtful attention to these key areas.
These interim assignments reflect our commitment to maintaining both stability and compliance as we continue evolving our structure. The permanent positions will remain posted, and we’ll continue to assess long-term leadership needs in alignment with our goals and values. As always, please visit our internal job site in Workday regularly to stay up to date on the latest internal postings.
Please continue to support one another—and our newly assigned leaders—as they step into these roles. They have answered the call with our core values in mind: courage, compassion, joy, and yes. We are grateful for their leadership and their willingness to serve our students and teams during this pivotal time.
A quick reminder: Please mark your calendars for the upcoming Student Affairs Reorganization Town Hall on Friday, June 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., where we’ll share more information and updates. As always, if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you again for your continued commitment and support.
Sincerely,
Shasta Buchanan, Ed.D
Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs
