Dear ,

We are horrified by yesterday's shooting in Jersey City that killed four people. We applaud the swift action of law enforcement and honor the memory of Detective Joseph Seals; a husband and father of five, who died in the line of duty.

We offer our condolences to the families of the three people who were killed in the kosher market including store owner Leah Mindel Ferencz, 24-year-old Moshe Deutsch, and store employee Miguel Jason Rodriguez.

The Jewish Federations of North America is monitoring the situation and has provided an update from Jason Shames, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey. According to the update, “While it certainly seems the Jewish market, and possibly the Jewish community was targeted, there are many complexities that must be investigated in order to de termine whether or not this will be legally classified as an anti-Semitic hate crime.”

Please also see this update from our partner, the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas (JCRC). They are in contact with local law enforcement officials to request extra patrol resources for our community.  Through our support of the JCRC, the St. Paul Jewish Federation proactively works to safeguard our community.

Sincerely,
