Our members likely are following the news regarding COVID-19, commonly referred to as coronavirus. The Vail Board of Realtors suggests staying informed, and members will see updates from the National Association of Realtors and VBR.

The CDC reports that most people in the United States do not have an immediate risk of exposure to the virus. However, the Vail Board of Realtors is putting procedures in place to keep members, staff and board informed, safe, and to avoid business disruption.
WHAT IS THE CORONAVIRUS?
Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. Symptoms can include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. While the outbreak started in Wuhan, China, a growing number of cases have been identified in several other countries, including the United States.
PRECAUTIONS AT THE VBR OFFICE
The VBR has safeguards in place for those who visit our offices, including providing hand sanitizer and using antibacterial wipes to clean surfaces before and after classes and meetings. Additionally, the VBR offices are professionally cleaned twice per week. As of today, no VBR courses have been cancelled, and we are hopeful that our precautions will prevent this happening.

As a best practice, we ask that individuals who are ill, or are around others that are ill avoid attending classroom courses or meetings. Please contact us if you need to cancel at 970-766-1028.

During this time some members may feel more comfortable with remote courses or meetings. Please see "Education Quick Links" below in this email for resources on online continuing education classes. Also, we are looking into options for virtual meetings and classes to limit close contact between individuals.

Please note: If you are a Realtor member wanting to take advantage of your free CREC Annual Update benefit, there are two free options to take the class.

1) An in-classroom version on March 12 with Scott Peterson, legal council for CAR. Register here .

2) Online through Thrive Education .
NAR'S CORONAVIRUS GUIDE FOR REALTORS®
  • What unique issues does coronavirus present to the real estate industry?

  • May I ask clients or others I interact with in my real estate business if they have traveled recently, or have any signs of respiratory illness?

  • I typically drive my clients to showings. May I refuse to drive potential clients to see homes?

  • Should I still conduct open houses on my listed properties?

  • What precautions should brokers consider taking in their offices?

STAYING HEALTHY
The same preventative measures recommended to prevent influenza are also effective in reducing the risk of contracting or spreading coronavirus. These measures include:

  • Staying home if you have a fever, cough, shortness of breath or any other cold or flu-like symptom.

  • Washing your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water aren't available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Avoiding close contact with anyone who is sick.

  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces.

  • Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, or cough or sneeze into your sleeve.
