Update: Venetian Causeway Water and Sewer Main Upgrades Phase 2

Notice Date: Friday, August 21, 2026

Project Update

The contractor is completing final connections for the new water and sewer pipes as part of the Venetian Causeway improvement project. Temporary water service interruptions are required and impacted properties should have received a printed notice. Sewer service is not expected to be affected.

To safely complete this work, water service for select properties on Rivo Alto Island will be temporarily interrupted from 9 p.m. on August 25 to 6 a.m. on August 26. Affected properties will receive a printed notice or email from the city with information about the water shutdown. There are no anticipated service interruptions for sewer main work. Those dates are forthcoming.

Scheduled water shutdown*

Please be advised that lane closures will be in effect to facilitate these operations. We kindly ask residents and local traffic to please be mindful of the following:

  • Reduce speed and follow posted construction-zone speed limits.
  • Follow signs, pavement markings, barricades and directions from flaggers.
  • Maintain a safe following distance from other vehicles and construction equipment.
  • Expect sudden lane changes, reduced lanes and delays.
  • Consider alternate routes when available.
  • Do not enter closed lanes, construction areas or drive around barricades.
  • Use designated pedestrian walkways and crossings only.

What Residents Need to Know About their Water Service

Residents are encouraged to prepare in advance by storing an adequate supply of water for drinking, cooking, hygiene and other essential household needs before the scheduled interruption.

Once service has been restored, you may notice temporary discoloration, cloudy water, or air in your plumbing lines. These conditions are normal and should be resolved by running the cold water from a faucet for several minutes until the water runs clear.

Possible Precautionary Boil Water Notice

While every effort will be made to complete this work without incident, there is a possibility that a Precautionary Boil Water Notice may be issued for affected properties following the scheduled water service interruption. The issuance of a boil water notice is a standard public health precaution whenever the water distribution system experiences a loss of pressure or is temporarily shut down.

If a Precautionary Boil Water Notice becomes necessary, affected residents will be notified promptly and provided with instructions regarding the advisory and when it has been lifted.

Timeline

The contractor will continue daily operations from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Substantial completion of the project is expected by late summer 2026, with final completion anticipated by early fall 2026.

The above noted lane closures, schedule and work hours are subject to change due to weather and/or other unforeseen circumstances.

Project Overview

This project replaced deteriorated water and sewer mains along the Venetian Causeway. Crews installed four new water lines and two sewer lines using horizontal directional drilling to connect the islands and Dade Boulevard, increasing system capacity to support the city’s growing demands.
