Lifting the Lockdown - much useful information
As the Government lockdown restrictions are eased further on Monday 12 April and more customers return to public transport, we wanted to let you know what we are doing to continue providing a safe, clean and reliable service in a welcoming environment.
As has been the case for many months, we are running a near normal level of service across London Underground, London Overground, DLR, TfL Rail, London Trams and London buses.
The network has never been cleaner. We have enhanced our cleaning frequency and ensure regularly touched surfaces are cleaned using hospital-grade cleaning substances that kill viruses and bacteria on contact and provide ongoing protection.
Since September, Imperial College London has run monthly tests for coronavirus on the transport network and found no trace. You can read their recently published report
Over 1,000 hand sanitiser stations are available across the network and 200 ultra violet light devices are being used to continually sanitise escalator handrails.
You can find out more about what we are doing to keep our services clean.
Air circulation
The constant movement of our trains, our ventilation systems and the regular opening and closing of doors on Tube and rail services means that the air circulation on our trains far exceeds the recommended standards to reduce the risk of transmission, changing more than 20 times an hour. Guidance from the Rail Safety and Standards Board recommends that the air inside a train carriage should change around six to 12 times per hour.
Buses are fitted with air extraction and ventilation systems. We also leave windows open throughout the passenger area to keep a constant flow of fresh air throughout the bus.
Social distancing
You will see signs across the network reminding everyone to socially distance where possible. If you can, please travel at quiet times to help spread travel across the day when there is available spare capacity. You can also use our TfL Go app to help plan your journey and find the quiet times to travel.
Face coverings
You must wear a face covering over your mouth and nose for your entire journey including inside stations, unless you are exempt. The overwhelming majority of people are complying with this requirement and the British Transport Police, Metropolitan Police and our own officers are on the network to check compliance.
Fines of up to £6,400 exist for anyone who does not comply.
Walking and cycling
Please also consider walking or cycling options, particularly to complete journeys in central London.
Protected walking and cycling facilities have been introduced. Santander Cycles docking stations can be found throughout central London.
You should consider completing part of your journey by walking from an earlier station stop rather than using a busier interchange. This will also help spread demand across the network.
We have lots of online tools to help you plan your journey, including maps with walking times between Tube stations and walking times between shops and attractions in the West End.
By recognising the signs of financial stress and scenario planning for a range of possibilities, owner managers can start to take control of their situation, reduce costs and improve their chances of rebuilding a successful business. Our business recovery specialists provide their insights in our recent whitepaper.

Employment Data Booklet

As the UK emerges from lockdown restrictions, managers and employees face a set of new challenges to deliver ‘business as usual’. Our employment solicitors are here to provide guidance and keep you up to date with legal changes that may affect you and your staff.

We are delighted to enclose the latest update of Moore Barlow’s Employment Data Booklet for 2021. It contains a useful summary of key employment rights and the very latest employment figures and limits. We hope that you will find this useful over the coming year as it is so important to keep up to date on changes in employment law. We update the booklet annually and share the information with our valued clients and contacts.
If you have any questions about the booklet and its contents or about employment issues generally, we would be delighted to help, so please do not hesitate to contact the team.
