Town of Grimsby
August 28 - 30 Declared Canada United Weekend in Grimsby
On August 17, the Town of Grimsby voted to proclaim and recognize August 28 to 30, 2020 as the Canada United Weekend in Grimsby. You can read our correspondence letter to Council here. We appreciate the Town's support in this important shop-local initiative!

Canada United is a nationwide campaign to get Canadians to shop or dine with you August 28, 29, and 30 and "show local some love".

And now, Canada United will be giving away 25 $10,000 cash prizes to Canadians shopping or dining with local businesses during the 3-day Canada United Weekend. You can tell your customers that spending with you could earn them a chance to win!

It’s easy to participate. Simply use the Canada United Small Business Toolkit to do any of
the following:

  • Add Canada United stickers and GIFs to your social media posts
  • Create custom banners and logos to share online
  • Get decals for your storefront, which you can pick up at a nearby RBC Royal Bank branch
  • Download posters and more, which you can print out on your own

Mark your calendar for August 31 if you are interested in applying for a Canada United Small Business Relief grant of up to $5,000 to offset costs related to Covid-19 for your business.

You can’t afford to miss out on this opportunity. Join the movement and be the local business that gets the love.

BarterPay Canada | OCC Affinity Partner
From John Porter, CEO of BarterPay

A super good-news story going into the weekend!

Ever heard of a Barter Loan?

It's the newest and most innovative form of financing and it's gaining a lot of interest from the small business community across Canada!

BROTHERS, 19 & 20, LAUNCH BUSINESS AMID COVID-19 WITH A BARTER LOAN & THEIR CERB BENEFIT!

When Aidan (20) and Jackson (19) lost their restaurant jobs due to Covid-19, they decided to turn their misfortune into a thriving business by leveraging the barter system! They arranged for a Barter Loan from BarterPay to offset some of their start up costs and received immediate business from the network which helped them dramatically speed up their launch!

By arranging a Barter Loan with BarterPay for BP5,000 (Barter Credits), they were able to use the Barter Credits to purchase lawn signs, printing, advertising, web development, t-shirts and bookkeeping. This allowed the brothers to conserve precious cash! They used their CERB benefit to acquire the things they couldn't obtain via BarterPay like ladders, cleaning supplies, window washing gear, ladder rack and insurance.

Then, once they were ready to start taking on customers, BarterPay advertised their services to other members of the BarterPay Community and they quickly landed some jobs where they could earn back the Barter Credits and pay off their loan.

The best part? Virtually every BarterPay member that they did work for led to numerous cash-paying referrals which was the catalyst for them to start earning money! We know that cash is king, it's the oxygen of your business. By leveraging BarterPay, these brothers were able to dramatically speed up their timeline to profitability!
If you'd like to learn more about how BarterPay can help your business grow, please click the button below to book a quick discovery call! I'd love to spend 15 minutes learning more about your business and to see if there's a fit to work together!

Communication, Popular Culture and Film Internships:
Fall 2020 Online

Our CPCF placements for students are required to be online in the Fall 2020 term. Luckily, communications-related projects are largely based in the digital world. Our fourth-year students are well-suited to help with a variety of online tasks, such as social media management, marketing, writing and editing, event planning, film editing/production, and research.

If you have communications needs and the ability to host students remotely this year, please submit a project/internship request here.

If you have any questions or concerns, or if you have ideas but need some more support to translate the internship experience online, contact Anneka Bosse.
