Dear Jardine Apartments resident,
We hope you’re well and getting settled into the process of distance learning. With the university’s decision to suspend in-person classes, some of you have asked questions regarding the services available in Jardine and your ability to remain living in your Jardine Apartment.
To be clear, Jardine residents are
not
required to move out and can continue to reside in their apartments until the end of their agreement (or longer if they have renewed their agreement for 2020-2021).
Operational Changes
The Jardine Apartments office is currently closed. We do have staff working in an as-needed basis. They will return phone calls for voicemails left at the Jardine Apartments number (785-532-3790) and staff are monitoring the
apartments@k-state.edu
email. The Housing and Dining Services office is open with limited service in the Pittman Building. We encourage you to call the Housing and Dining Services main line (785-532-6453) before going to Pittman for service as we can likely help over the phone rather than in person.
Maintenance Services
To protect the health and safety of our maintenance staff, we can only respond to emergency maintenance issues. You can submit work orders for routine maintenance through the
resident portal
and we will address those requests as we are able.
Mail
Mail will continue to be delivered to the Jardine mail room but expect delays in delivery timelines. The map room is not accessible at this time so enter the mail room from the west doors or the east doors into the Building 7 laundry room.
Changes to Vacating/Terminating/Renewal by Resident Section of Agreement
Some of you have expressed a desire to terminate your Jardine Apartments agreement and return to your permanent address.
Just to clarify, Jardine residents may continue to reside in their apartments until the end of their agreement (or longer if they have renewed their agreement for 2020-2021). Residents are
not
required to move out.
For residents who vacate between the dates of March 15 and April 30, 2020, the below will apply:
- Residents who submit an intent to vacate between March 15 and April 30 and move out by April 30 will be offered a modified early termination penalty.
- The early termination penalty will be changed from loss of $400 deposit and an amount equivalent to 60 days of rent to an early termination penalty equal to 30 days of rent.
- The resident will retain the $400 deposit (less damages to the apartment).
- The 30 days of rent will be measured beginning with the last date of occupancy, and rent will be charged in half-month increments.
For students who have an active agreement for the fall 2020 semester, Housing and Dining Services will retain the resident’s $400 deposit to apply to future agreements.
Students who wish to move out early should follow the process below.
