We Can Lead Change Update

On November 24th, WCLC held a gathering of its members and friends to discuss the work that we want to accomplish in the next two months. We had close to 60 people in attendance who were served amazing food provided by our hostess, Mary O'Connor.

At this gathering, we heard from immigration lawyers and resource directors regarding the rights of immigrants and refugees. We heard from elected officials about immediate concerns they had going into the new year.

We also discussed local elections, upcoming events and next steps. See below for our first event of 2025. More information about other events will be forthcoming.

Electing local government officials has a significant impact on a community's citizens. These officials decide how tax money is spent locally, making it crucial to know who the candidates are before voting.

The next Illinois election, the Consolidated Election, will be held on April 1, 2025. Early voting and vote by mail ballots will start January 16th, 2025.

During this election, mayors, city council members, and members of library, park, and school boards will be elected.

WCLC is committed to providing accurate and fair information about candidates and voting to help you make informed decisions. WCLC has established an endorsement committee for this upcoming election. For more information, email us at wecanleadchange2018@gmail.com

Immigration Rights

At our gathering, we learned about the rights that immigrants have and what families should have in place if mass deportation occurs. We learned that Illlinois has numerous safeguards in place to protect the rights of immigrants and undocumented persons. Below are links to information regarding these rights. Feel free to pass these along.

SAVE THE DATE

On January 15th at the Batavia Library, 6:30 pm, WCLC will host a panel of immigration rights experts. This event will be open to the public in person and virtually. There will be a presentation in English and Spanish on current information about the rights of immigrants.
