Dear Cristo Rey Jesuit Parents and Students,
As the criminal case against Fernando Bustos continues to move forward, the safety and the education of our students remain Cristo Rey Jesuit High School’s top priorities. We are committed to continuing to support the ongoing investigation in any way we can.
Today, June 4, a hearing was held. The jury trial remains scheduled for Monday, June 29, 2026 at 9:00 AM. The school continues to cooperate with the District Attorney’s office and has promptly provided all information and assistance that has been requested. Since this is a legal matter, Cristo Rey Jesuit attorneys are working closely with law enforcement officials so that we can focus our energy and efforts on the education and well-being of our students.
Cristo Rey Jesuit’s legal counsel advised us of the following:
- It is not unusual for plea deal negotiations to take place between now and the date of the trial.
- The legal path of each criminal case is unique, and it is not possible to predict if a jury trial will occur in this or any case.
- Cristo Rey Jesuit plays no part in the negotiations or decisions that occur. Any decisions or actions that are part of the legal process are determined by the Judge, Defendant and District Attorney’s Office.
- This process and the ultimate results of this case are outside the scope and control of Cristo Rey Jesuit.
Cristo Rey Jesuit stands in solidarity with you. We are committed to making sure that our school and campus are safe and that our community receives the necessary support and resources. As a reminder, for the most current information we have been provided about the case, please visit our FAQ page.
