Dear Cristo Rey Jesuit Parents and Students,



As the criminal case against Fernando Bustos continues to move forward, the safety and the education of our students remain Cristo Rey Jesuit High School’s top priorities. We are committed to continuing to support the ongoing investigation in any way we can.

Today, September 4, a brief status hearing was held to confirm the Final Pretrial date of November 7, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. At the Final Pretrial, the Court and Parties will address any remaining legal issues and logistical details for the Jury Trial. The Jury Trial is scheduled to begin on January 26, 2026 at 9:00 AM and continue each day thereafter until finished.

Cristo Rey Jesuit’s legal team advised us of the following:

1. It is not unusual for plea deal negotiations to take place between now and the date of the trial. 
2. The legal path of each criminal case is unique, and it is not possible to predict if a jury trial will occur in this or any case. 
3. Cristo Rey Jesuit plays no part in the negotiations or decisions that occur. Any decisions or actions that are part of the legal process are determined by the Judge, Defendant and District Attorney’s Office. 
4. This process and the ultimate results of this case are outside the scope and control of Cristo Rey Jesuit.

Mientras el caso penal contra Fernando Bustos continúa avanzando, la seguridad y la educación de nuestros estudiantes siguen siendo las principales prioridades de Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. Estamos comprometidos a seguir apoyando la investigación en curso en todo lo que esté a nuestro alcance.

Hoy, 4 de septiembre, se llevó a cabo una breve audiencia de seguimiento para confirmar la fecha de la Audiencia Final Preliminar, la cual se celebrará el 7 de noviembre de 2025 a las 9:00 a.m. En dicha audiencia, el Tribunal y las partes abordarán cualquier cuestión legal pendiente y detalles logísticos relacionados con el juicio con jurado. El juicio con jurado está programado para comenzar el 26 de enero de 2026 a las 9:00 a.m. y continuará cada día siguiente hasta su conclusión.

El equipo legal de Cristo Rey Jesuit nos informó lo siguiente:



• No es inusual que se lleven a cabo negociaciones de acuerdos de culpabilidad entre ahora y la fecha del juicio.
• El camino legal de cada caso penal es único, y no es posible predecir si habrá o no un juicio con jurado en este caso o en cualquier otro.
• Cristo Rey Jesuit no participa en las negociaciones ni en las decisiones que se toman. Cualquier decisión o acción dentro del proceso legal está determinada por el juez, el acusado y la fiscalía.
• Este proceso y sus resultados finales están fuera del alcance y control de Cristo Rey Jesuit.
