NATIONAL FIELD DAY - FRIDAY, MAY 8
P.E. Teachers Demonstrate Agility & Adaptability Planning Virtual Field Day Events
For many elementary students, field day is the highlight of their school year. But what’s a P.E. teacher to do when their students can’t be together? They adapt!

Many P.E. teachers are designing their own events and some are joining the OPEN National Field Day celebration scheduled for Friday, May 8. Not sure if your school is hosting a virtual Field Day? Check your school's website to see what they might have planned.

In the meantime, check out this video Peiffer P.E. Teacher Holli Swanson created to help get her students pumped up for field day!
MAY IS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH
With a Focus on Cultivating Resilience
This May, we are encouraging a shift in thinking of self-care as a luxury, and instead as a necessity to be woven into our everyday routines. As with frequent handwashing for personal hygiene and physical immunity, we need to continually engage in activities that enhance our resilience - or our psychological immunity - by cultivating connection, calm, and gratitude. Week one's theme is Cultivating Connection.

Visit our new Jeffco Strengths family web page , featuring a self-care calendar and activities to cultivate resilience. Hear below from Superintendent Dr. Jason Glass then join us in this important work!
Mental Health Bonus - Grief and Loss: Recent events have created unforeseen changes in our world, including the loss of much-anticipated events and rites of passage, especially true for our senior class. We can acknowledge their loss and support them with empathy; compassion paves the way for children and teens to navigate their feelings. Here are tips and articles for families. END-OF-YEAR CHECKOUT PROCEDURES COMING FROM YOUR SCHOOL
Jeffco families, you should be hearing from your school(s) this week about their plans for arranging pick up of items at school (cleaning out lockers and classrooms), senior check out, and other end-of-year processes. Schools are planning to allow for this activity, while ensuring safety and social distancing.
