An Update from us on COVID-19
Hello,

Based on the information you provided in the Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services Survey, you fall under Phase 1B, Tier 2 of the state’s vaccination distribution plan. This tier includes those who are 65 or older and adults with the medical conditions outlined by the state of Missouri: www.mostopscovid.com.

While we do not currently have enough vaccine supply to begin scheduling appointments for those in Phase 1B, Tier 2, we are putting you on a standby list for any extra doses of vaccine that are available in our clinic at the end of the day.

You may have heard that the vaccines can only be left at room temperature for a certain amount of time, or that doses left in an opened vial can’t be used the next day. This is true! With vaccine in such limited supply, we certainly don’t want to waste any. Not only that, we want to vaccinate as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. That’s where you come in.

Here’s how it will work:
  • If PHHS or one of our local vaccinators have leftover COVID-19 vaccine doses at the end of the day, we will refer to the list of people who have signed up with our department and fall into Phase 1B, Tier 2.
  • We will randomly pick people to call depending on how many doses we have available. By doing this randomly we hope to ensure equitable access to all.
  • If there is a dose available and your name comes up, you will receive a call between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. If you are called, we ask that you arrive at the designated vaccination site within 30 minutes. Our clinic is located at Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services, 1005 W. Worley St. in Columbia. Our staff at the front desk will provide further information on where to go once you arrive at the department. If one of our community vaccinators calls you, they will provide information about where to go.

Some important notes:
  • This will not be your only chance to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. This is simply one option while we wait to have enough supply to begin scheduled appointments for those in Tier 2.
  • If you get a call about a vaccine dose being available to you, but you’d rather have a spouse/household member who falls into this Phase 1B, Tier 2 group take your place, you may do so as long as they are able to get to our clinic within 30 minutes of being called.
  • This list will be used by other local vaccinators, so it’s possible that you will receive a call directly from one of them rather than our department. For example, Boone Hospital may call you if they have extra doses. We will be sure to tell you where to go to get this vaccine so that there is no confusion.
  • Please be aware that our staff will never ask you for personal or sensitive information over the phone, and that there is no charge for the vaccine. Do not give out your insurance or financial information over the phone to someone claiming to be calling from PHHS.

Thank you for your commitment to your health and the health of our community, and for your patience as we distribute our extremely limited supply of COVID-19 vaccines.

Thank you,
Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services
