Dear Friend,

I recently brought together farmers, doctors, water utility leaders, researchers, government officials, and parents to discuss Iowa’s water quality.

We don’t all come from the same political party or share the same perspective, but we share a clear goal: every Iowan should have access to clean, safe drinking water. As a mom, that’s personal to me. Families deserve confidence in the water coming out of their tap.

We had a productive conversation about reducing nitrates, strengthening farmer-led conservation efforts, and securing additional investments in water infrastructure.

I know our water utilities face real challenges, and supporting their work has been a top priority for me since I came to Congress. Since 2021, I’ve brought over $20 million in federal funding back to Iowa to improve water and wastewater infrastructure in places like Peosta, Eldora, Grinnell, and Belle Plaine.

There’s much more work to do, and I’ll keep bringing people together to deliver real solutions for Iowa families.

Sincerely,

Welcoming EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin to Iowa

Iowa farmers and producers deserve to have their voices heard in Washington, and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin's visit was an opportunity to make sure their priorities are front and center.

We started off at Big River United Energy in Dyersville, where we toured the facility and talked about what Iowa farmers and biofuels producers need right now.

We need to do everything we can to strengthen demand for homegrown biofuels, expand markets, and lower costs at the pump. I appreciate Administrator Zeldin working with me to protect the Renewable Fuel Standard and ensure strong biofuels blending targets.

I'll keep pushing for policies that put Iowa farmers first, including making sure refinery exemptions don’t reduce demand for Iowa biofuels and getting permanent year-round E15 across the finish line!

Then, we visited Dubuque to get a firsthand look at the impressive work they are doing at the Water & Resource Recovery Center. I helped secure $2 million in federal funding to help upgrade this facility, improve water treatment, and support local businesses that rely on it.

The facility even turns waste into energy, generating enough electricity to power roughly 360 homes. Making sure Iowa communities have clean, safe water is a top priority, and investments like this help us get there.

I always appreciate working with Mayor Brad Cavanagh, who has been a great local partner, to advocate for Dubuque. Thanks to Administrator Zeldin for taking the time to hear from Iowans and to the entire team for showing us around.

And lastly, we enjoyed spending time with local veterans at the Veterans Freedom Center in Dubuque!

From helping veterans with everyday needs to providing a place for connection and camaraderie, the Freedom Center is doing incredible work. With veteran suicide and mental health challenges still such heartbreaking realities, having a community to lean on matters so much.

I’ll keep fighting to ensure our veterans receive the care, support, and resources they’ve earned and deserve. Thank you to Al Rowell and all the volunteers who make this special place what it is today!
