Update from Ashley: Largest Steel Plant Investment in US History Coming to Iowa

Dear Friend,

This week marked the next chapter of American manufacturing being written in Iowa. There is no better place to invest and build than in Iowa. Because we have the best people. The best workforce, work ethic, and know-how to make things here.

This $15 billion investment coming to our state will be a game-changer for Iowa. It will create more than 1,700 good-paying Iowa jobs ($49/hour) and 6,000 construction jobs. That means a whole lot to a family in Lee County.

It means a young person who was going to start their life elsewhere may take that high-paying job in the area and start their own family there.

And investments this big foster economic development.

The administration’s pro-American manufacturing policies are also incentivizing companies to invest, build, and create jobs in the U.S. I’m grateful to Governor Reynolds for her leadership in making Iowa a great place to do business and ensuring our state benefits from these policies by attracting investments like this one.

This is exactly the kind of investment that will create incredible opportunities for Iowa workers and families, and I’m proud to welcome it to our state.

Casework Wins for Iowans

Helping Iowans navigate the federal government is an important part of my job. When a constituent runs into a problem with a federal agency, my team works to get answers and find a solution. Few highlights below!

Heart Medication Coverage: Restored!

After a constituent's insurance company denied coverage for heart medication her doctor prescribed, she spent weeks trying to get the issue resolved on her own. She turned to my office for help, and my team stepped in, pushed through the bureaucracy, and got her case reviewed. Her medication was finally approved, giving our constituent peace of mind and access to the care she had been fighting to receive.

It’s stories like this that have guided my work in Congress, and it’s why I’ve been fighting to take on big health insurance and hold them accountable for making patients jump through unnecessary hoops and leaving them in the dark. Military Retirement Pay: Corrected!

After serving for 25 years, an Army National Guard veteran learned his retirement records listed the wrong rank, meaning he hadn’t been receiving the full retirement pay he earned. My team worked to correct his records, recover the back pay he was owed, and finally make sure his years of service were properly recognized.

Fighting for Iowa Agriculture

Biofuels are a win for Iowa farmers, our economy, and drivers at the pump. Had a great conversation with Growth Energy about making sure American-made ethanol has every opportunity to compete.

Always great to visit with the Iowa Pork Producers! California activists shouldn’t tell Iowa producers how to do their job. I’ll continue leading the charge to overturn Prop 12!

Also had a wonderful meeting with Iowa Corn. I’ll keep fighting to keep biofuels front and center in America’s energy policy as we work to lower prices at the pump and support Iowa farmers. 🌽
