Hello. I am Graham Seel, and I have the privilege of serving as President of Cantare’s Board. As we come to the end of a remarkable year for Cantare, I’d like to thank you and to update you.
First of all, thank you. Whether you are a donor, a follower, a singer, a family member—whatever your relationship is with Cantare—you have stuck with us during a very difficult year. We have learned things we didn’t know we needed to learn. We have struggled with loss and grieving, and for some of you that has been terribly hard. We have discovered areas of creativity we didn’t realize we had. Who knew we’d become so expert at virtual relationships?
Now the economy is reopening. We look back on remarkable accomplishments for Cantare. Did you join us for the 2021 Spring Concert? For me, it epitomized what Cantare is about: the generational interaction, the focus on equity and justice, and the opportunities our youth and children have to express themselves in song. You can find it on the Cantare Youtube channel, along with so many great performances. Check out the highlights from the Nova recital, too.
We look forward to a return to in-person choirs, concerts, and classes in the fall. This is exciting for all of us, even if some are still understandably nervous. The Cantare Board is especially excited having just completed a very fruitful three-year strategic planning process. We are looking forward to growing social impact, deepening relationships, and stronger ties to families, schools, and local communities. Just a few highlights:
- In the fall, we expect to hire a new Executive Director to oversee fund development, marketing and administration, thus freeing David, Julie and Conway to focus on artistic and educational programming.
- We are creating professional marketing and development capabilities that will lead to broader awareness and support for the impactful work Cantare does.
- We will expand singing opportunities, especially for underserved adult and student communities.
- We are also strengthening the Board and creating a number of Board committees to position us for another 30+ years of service in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
None of this would be possible without you. Thank you for your financial support, and for your participation in our artistic programs as singer, instrumentalist, volunteer or audience member. If you’d like to participate even more fully in Cantare’s bright future, there are many ways you can. Please let me know, via firstname.lastname@example.org, if you’d like to offer your professional expertise, passion, or simple desire to help.
I’m looking forward to this coming year with great excitement. I hope to see you at our next concert!
