Daily Press Conference - The Mountain Incident

(November 6, 2024, 6PM)

There are TWO active incidents in Ventura County this evening: Mountain Fire & Santa Ana Wind Event/Public Safety Power Shutoff

MOUNTAIN FIRE

Just before 9am, Wednesday November 6, 2024, a fast-moving brush fire broke out in the Somis area, just west of Balcom Canyon Road. The intense Santa Ana wind event already in progress quickly spread the fire south and west across Hwy 118 and into the Camarillo Heights area.

As of this report, the fire has burned approximately 10,430 acres, prompting multiple Evacuation Order and Road closures. Ventura County Fire and Ventura County Sheriff had augmented staff in anticipation of the weather event. Sheriff’s Emergency Services activated the Emergency Operations Center to support the incident. The VCEmergency.com website was activated to provide real-time incident updates throughout the event. An information hotline is open and may be reached at 805-465-6650.

Ventura County Sheriff and Ventura County Fire hosted a press conference at 4pm on Wednesday to provide updates on the fire suppression efforts. A CalFire Incident Management Team has been requested and is expected to engage in the firefight on Thursday evening.
