There is a great deal happening across Prince George's County in 2018 and I strongly encourage each of you to
engage with your County Council throughout the year. In this message, I am sharing some important links to facilitate your engagement.
For the first time in several years, the County Council held its Annual R
etreat in the County. We met at The Hotel at the University of Maryland, in College Park, Wednesday-Friday of last week. View the agenda, a daily summary, and photos
. All retreat
presentations will be posted to this site this week.
On Friday, leadership
from the University of Maryland Medical System joined us for an extensive briefing on the
UM Capital Region Medical Center
, our new regional medical center currently under construction. Learn more about retreat agenda items
All legislative powers of the County are vested in the County Council. In addition, the County Council sits as the District Council on zoning and land use matters, and as the Board of Health on health policy matters.
The County Council, sitting as the District Council, is granted authority to take action on zoning matters by the State of Maryland through the land use article, Regional District Act, of the Maryland Annotated Code. The District Council generally meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 10:00 a.m. Use
to view District Council agendas, meeting minutes, and archived video.
The County Council meets every Tuesday in the County Administration Building. Generally these meetings start at 10:00 a.m. but they occasionally begin at 1:30 p.m., especially when there are evening hearings.
View agendas and meeting minutes here.
The County Council has five standing committees, which each generally meet twice a month. The main work of legislation takes place during committee sessions. Each piece of legislation is presented to the full Council then referred to a committee for further discussion, amendments, and a vote.

Members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend all District Council, Cou
y Council and committee meetings. Two years ago I led the charge to update the Council's rules to ensure that all of our meetings are streamed live and archived.
If you can't attend in person you can watch live or
archived versions of all public hearings and committee meetings here
. You can even jump to specific items on the agenda in the archived videos thanks to the great work of our Council staff.
I'm incredibly excited about a new regular update the County Council's Communications team will produce this year to update residents on agendas, news, and events. If you would like to receive this update, Council Connections, please reply to this message and I will pass your email along to be added to the distribution list.
Thank you for engaging with the important work of the Prince George's County Council. As always, don't hesitate to reach out to a member of my staff or me if we can assist you in any way.
Together Strengthening our Community,
P.S. If you are active on social media, you can engage with the County Council and me on social media also. Links are on the right side bar.
