As I write this from home on the first day of our stay-at-home order, my mind is reeling with the events of the last several weeks. Every day has been a whirlwind of reinvention and last-minute planning as we’ve changed our operation to adapt to new developments.
After weeks of frantic planning, re-planning, and re-re-planning, the new stay-at-home order brings a sudden calm. I am deeply grateful for the compassion and kindness with which our community has faced this crisis. As storefronts close and the streets empty, the sense of community support here feels as strong as ever.
We closed the store entirely today, Thursday, while we determined a safe and responsible way to proceed.
Beginning tomorrow, Friday, March 27th, a Maria’s staff member will be available to take phone orders Monday-Friday, 10am-2pm. You can also shop on our website at
. Also, while we can no longer provide curbside pickup, we can still ship all orders directly to your home.
The mission of Maria’s Bookshop is to cultivate community connection through books. This feels more important now than ever. While we may not be able to welcome you into the store these days, there is still no better way to find community connection in times of social distancing than by reading that book your friend or a bookseller recommended. In books, you can find solace, connection, and escape when you need it most.
If you need a recommendation or just want to talk books, give us a call at 970-247-1438 or email me personally at
Thank you for all the incredible support, and I can’t wait to see each of you in the store again soon.
