Opportunity for Lent - Opportunity for a LIFETIME
By now, you've heard about the Parish Mission beginning tomorrow (Sun. March 17) and, hopefully, are planning to attend. If you are unsure, I ask you to consider this rare event.
I know how the tasks of daily living take so much of your time and energy. I know work and the economy add to the stresses of life, stress on marriage and families. People all say: As soon as we get through this or that, then we can get to what's really important.
You know, things don't work out that way. The world will always have something clamoring for our attention. It isn't going to change. We have to.
We have to start giving our real priorities the time and attention they deserve. As believers in Jesus, we know it's only faith and love of Him that can keep our lives, relationships, and families together. That's really why I'm asking you to plan to be with us at the parish Mission. Even if you haven't practiced the faith for a while, this Mission is for you.
If you are wondering whether or not children and youth will benefit, I ask you to remember that actions speak louder than words. Your participation in the mission is a strong example to your children and those around. It empansizes the importance of faith and church in your life to all those around you, especially children. Perhaps this will be the first time your child will experience coming to church outside of Sunday Mass, adding a new dimension to their faith.*
Finally, as we near Holy Week, the Mission is a wonderful opportunity to do 'something' for Lent. Please consider inviting a friend, family member or neighbor. Our Mission is a serious time ~ a time to concentrate on Life's purpose. It is also a joyful time because Jesus is at the heart of it. What better time for this than Lent? Frankly, I've never known anyone who participated without gaining a deep inner peace and a practical plan for living.
I hope you'll make an effort to arrange your schedule so that you can be with us.
And that you and everyone in our parish will be here for this special time. The schedule for the entire Parish Mission is available on the Mission page of our parish website as well as in this newsletter.
Anytime a parish has a mission, God bestows really special blessings on the people. Please pray with me that all of us are open to receiving them and please plan to be among those who do. Thank you.
Please come, everyone is welcome.
Fr. Gary Pacitti
Pastor
* We know it can be a hassle to get to church with little children. But, you're welcome to bring them and nobody's going to mind. The Chapel serves as the 'cry room'. |

WHAT IS A MISSION?
A Mission is a very special time in the life of a parish and its people. A parish is an opportunity to experience our faith in a way different from Sunday Mass. Those who attend our Mission will gain clearer knowledge of Scripture and the fundamental teachings of our faith, a deeper friendship with Jesus, a sense of peace and purpose, and unconditional forgiveness and renewal.

CHILDREN - Young and Not-So-Young
If you have young children, feel free to bring them to the Mission. If you are concerned they will fuss, the Chapel serves as our cry room. If it's too late in the evening for them, perhaps you can alternate nights with your spouse and share with one another your thoughts and prayers. Maybe one of you can come in the morning, one in the evening. There is a schedule of the Mission in this newsletter. Please treat yourself, although it will mean a sacrifice. I hope you will attend.
If your children are Not-So-Young, perhaps they are reluctant to come to Mass with you. This is a perfect opportunity to invite them to experience God's love and grow closer to Jesus. In any event, you can set an example for them with your participation. |
WHO SHOULD COME?
Everyone is welcome at our Parish Mission...
Women ~ Men ~ Young ~ Old
Single ~ Married ~ Divorced~ Separated
Catholics ~ Used to be Catholics~ Non-Catholics
What about young people?
Often young people get the most from a Mission. The plain talk about Jesus captivates them. Encourage your children to come.
If they can't come to the Main Service in the evening, help them make the effort to attend in the morning. They'll never forget doing something special for the Lord like this.
What about people who have dropped out of our parish family?
Usually they plan to come back to their faith some day. This Mission is a perfect time. Everyone is welcome, especially people who imagine they have no place in our parish family because of a marriage situation.
Would you offer an invitation to someone personally? |
WHO IS GIVING THIS MISSION?
We have invited Fr. Don Miniscalco, a renowned Redemptorist priest from St. Peter's Church in Philadelphia, to conduct our Mission. Fr. Miniscalco has been conducting Missions since 1980. In 2003, Pope John Paul II bestowed the Pro Ecclesia Pontifice honor on Fr. Miniscalco in recognition of his service in the new evangelism. Fr. Miniscalco has conducted Missions in this area several times. |
