HARTFORD – All Hartford Public Library locations will be closed to the public starting Saturday, March 14 through March 31 in response to the ongoing challenges caused by the COVID19 virus.

All workshops, outreach, classes, and programs are canceled through the end of the month. 

For the foreseeable future, the renewal period for borrowed materials will be extended to compensate for late returns. Materials will be automatically renewed up to three times if no one else is waiting. Library personnel will be available for questions via e-mail at or by calling 860-695-6300.

“As more information becomes available, we will reassess, respond, and act accordingly. During the closure we encourage people to take advantage of our robust online resources,” Hartford Public Library President and CEO Bridget Quinn-Carey said.

Through Axis 360  you can download e-books from the Library's collection that can be viewed on your computer or a mobile device. There are never overdue books or late fees; titles automatically return to the Library's collection after 7 or 14 days. Start browsing our collection here !

Freegal Music  is a download music service that the Hartford Public Library offers, free of charge, for use by library cardholders. Every library cardholder can download 3 songs per week, and stream up to 3 hours per day.

A new addition to the collection, Kanopy is a streaming video service that offers critically-acclaimed movies, documentaries, and foreign films. Watch 5 movies per month AND stream the entire Kanopy Kids library!

HPL now provides you with access to Acorn TV, IndieFlix, Pongalo, and Qello Concerts. Cardholders are limited to one license per week. Each license allows you to watch as much as you like, of the service you have selected, during that week. 

Acorn TV provides world-class mysteries, dramas, and comedies from Britain and beyond.

IndieFlix allows you to stream movies and classic TV.

Qello Concerts offers f ull-length concerts and music documentaries. There are over 1,500 of the most amazing live moments in music.
