These are trying times for us all, as individuals, families, communities, and the world at large. At a time where community can be so helpful, we must stand apart. Physical contact soothes and yet it is forbidden, except with those living in the same household, and not under quarantine. Anxiety levels can easily skyrocket, felt especially strongly by those who are already dealing with anxiety and depression.
How to cope? Our mindset matters- focus on the positives. Instead of saying social distancing, say distance socializing. The evidenced based technique of controlled breathing will reset your brain, and help lower anxiety. Below are some additional tips.

Committing to Self-Care:
|
- stay connected to friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors
- create a virtual dinner party or coffee date
- keep a daily routine- including regular meals, exercise, work time, and play time
- stay in the present- we cannot know the future or change the past
- keep a daily gratitude list- perhaps share it nightly with your family
- limit your news consumption- even though the news is changing rapidly, you don't need to stay tuned in 24/7
- find topics of conversation besides the pandemic
- look for moments of joy and share them
- drink water
- get plenty of sleep
- practice acts of kindness
- Be creative- some ideas below include a virtual museum tour, online, Shakespeare plays, an online book group, online classes, and online workouts
We are in this together and together we will get through.
