Outreach Global Leads Summer Programs
in Benin and Greece
The month of June was a busy one for the Auburn University Office of Outreach Global, taking them to Benin for the STEP entrepreneurship training program and to Greece for the Health Service-Learning Program.
On June 5, 2023, the Outreach Global director, Dr. Elizabeth Quansah, alongside Dr. Lakami Baker from the Harbert College of Business, embarked on their annual STEP Training Program in Cotonou, Benin. This capacity-building entrepreneurship training provided over 100 local Beninese people with the skills they need to advance in the business world – developing the potential of individuals as well as the local and national economies.
After a quick turnaround, Outreach Global was back on its feet and headed to Athens, Greece for its Health Service-Learning Program from June 23 to July 2 alongside AU colleges of Nursing, Pharmacy, and Education. The program had a total of 54 participants including 42 Auburn University students from Nursing, Pharmacy, Science and Mathematics, and Liberal Arts. This program, in collaboration with the nonprofit Doctors of the World, gave students the opportunity to provide essential HIV/STI testing in surrounding refugee camps, offer medical check-ups to homeless Athenians, and to shadow and assist at the Doctors of the World polyclinic.
These initiatives exemplify the Office of Outreach Global's dedication to making a positive impact on communities, both locally and globally. By providing opportunities for learning, service, and collaboration, the Outreach Global team has demonstrated the university's commitment to fostering global citizenship and addressing pressing social and economic issues.
