Hello to all! Quite a bit is happening in this world around us! We tend to see things outside of our immediate circles at different degrees. Some say it doesn't affect our family; I don't care much. While others may be consumed with trying to make things better for their children's future ... most are somewhere in between. This newsletter covers many events that continue to show the orchestrated attempts to suppress our ability to protect our children from unhealthy agendas.
I want to start by congratulating all who were victorious in the local primary elections. I hope you will continue to listen to the community's concerns and keep that 'just elected' motivation during your entire time in office! I am excited to see the impact you will make on the future of our community!!!
Last month, the Daniel Boone Family Festival in downtown Mocksville was a great event to get books home with many happy kids. I cannot emphasize the importance of setting a love for reading at a very early age. One in five U.S. adults (21%) have low literacy skills, about 43 million adults. We also know that adults with low literacy levels are far more likely to be under or unemployed, pushing them to turn to criminal activity.
As parents, YOU are the first; hopefully, the best, teacher your child will ever have! Of course, not every child is as fortunate, and parents may leave it to the public school system to teach and foster the love of reading. With the increase of programs like 'Drag Queen Story Hour' targeting 3-7 year-olds to attend and the ever-growing list of toxic books in the public schools and libraries, providing access to great books should be an effort we ALL can support!
Please see below if you are interested in how you can support our effort to get good books to as many as possible.
In solidarity -
