Animal Matters Commission Seeking 3 Members
The Animal Matters Commission, formerly known as the Animal Control Commission, is seeking three members. One from District 1, 2, or 3, one from District 6 or 7, and an at-large member. Seeking at least one appointee with a background in law. Ideal candidates would be animal savvy and safety conscious and would need to be comfortable with using Zoom as this is the platform used for hearings during COVID or in person when in person hearings resume.

The seven-member Animal Matters Commission hears appeals of citations issued based on Affidavits of Complaint, suspension/denial or revocation of licenses and Administrative Orders by the Animal Care & Control Agency and submits written findings and recommendations to the Chief of Police or her designee. It can levy, modify or revoke fines and issue recommendations on Administrative orders. Members include representatives from the Police Department, Health Department, a veterinarian, and citizens.

The Animal Matters Commission typically meets the 1st Monday of each month during the day. Candidates may send their resume and letter of interest to [email protected].
