An Update from the Office of Community Engagement and Constituent Services (CECS)
Dear Community Leaders and Members of Anne Arundel County,

Yesterday, County Executive Pittman sent an open letter to Alden Global Capital. This is the hedge fund that bought out the Capital Gazette, and has begun dismantling it. The County Executive invited their leadership to come visit our community, see the value of our paper, and help it grow. You can read the full letter below.

The Office of Planning and Zoning is now accepting applications for people who would like to serve on the Stakeholder Advisory Committees for the upcoming Region Plans in regional areas 2, 4, and 7. Plan2040 transferred power to communities, just as County Executive Pittman promised that it would. Now, we need a solid group of volunteers to join these teams and to help shape the future of your communities and Anne Arundel County. Please read more about this opportunity below, and then both spread the word as well as consider if you are the right person to represent your community on the committee for your area.

Yard Waste Collection Update
Late last week, the County executed an emergency procurement contract to help address the recent delays in curbside collection experienced in parts of Glen Burnie, Pasadena, Severna Park, Gambrills, Odenton, Laurel, and Maryland City. The delays have been mostly yard waste-related and are associated with the labor shortage problems of the current contractor. If you live in an affected part of one of these communities, your trash and recycling collection days will remain the same, but your yard waste collection day will now be Wednesday. This emergency procurement represents County Executive Pittman's commitment to delivering reliable services to all residents of Anne Arundel County.

If you live in an affected community, you can use this online search tool to confirm if your address is affected by these changes.

Resources for Nonprofit Boards

Cade (AMC) Scholarship Fund is here to support board members - and the organizations they serve- to broaden their capacity through professional development and education. AMC Scholarships are awarded to community leaders, nonprofit staff, and nonprofit board members to improve knowledge in areas such as fundraising, technology development, nonprofit finance, nonprofit board governance, and marketing, to name a few.

Reminder: Eviction Moratorium Expires June 30th
The Community Action Agency encourages all county residents who have fallen behind on their rental payments to apply for assistance as soon as possible. It is also important for applicants to communicate with their landlords that they are going through the emergency rental assistance program (ERAP) application process. The application process takes time to complete and communicating with landlords may avoid the initiation of the eviction process.

To learn more about eligibility for the ERAP, please click here. To access the Agency’s application on-line, click here. For more information, please call 410.626.1900 #3.
