Excessive Heat Prompts Opening of Cooling Centers
Anne Arundel County will open cooling centers on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 and
Thursday, July 23, 2020 in response to prolonged high temperatures and excessive
humidity. The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures in the high 80s
to mid 90s with oppressive humidity, creating heat index values in excess of 107
degrees and air quality levels approaching unhealthy for sensitive groups. The
following locations will be available to provide cooling relief:

Anne Arundel County Police will designate District Station Community Rooms at the
following precincts as cooling centers from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. on

Wednesday, July 22, 2020, and Thursday, July 23, 2020:
  • Northern District: 939 Hammonds Lane, Baltimore
  • Eastern District: 204 Pasadena Rd, Pasadena
  • Western District: 8273 Telegraph Road, Odenton
  • Southern District: 35 Stepneys Lane, Edgewater

Things You May Have Missed Last Week...
New Initiatives Announced
County Executive Pittman and AAWDC President & CEO Kirkland Murray announced that AAWDC has received CARES Act funding to implement the Anne Arundel CountyExcluded Workers Humanitarian Relief Fund and Rapid Re-Employment Services.

Applications for the Anne Arundel County Excluded Worker Humanitarian Relief Fund will opened today, Monday, July 13, 2020 at 9:00 am. Information about the program and frequently asked questions can be found at  www.aawdc.org/relief.

We encourage any Anne Arundel County resident who qualifies for this fund to apply online. If individuals do not have internet they can call the Anne Arundel County Career Center at 410-424-3240 for assistance. Once residents' applications are accepted an AAWDC staff member will contact them to schedule them to pick up their Visa card at a convenient pop-up pick up location throughout the county.
