An Update from the Office of Community Engagement and Constituent Services (CECS)
Dear Community Leaders and Members of Anne Arundel County,

I hope that you all continue to be safe and healthy. I want to wrap this week up by summarizing a few of the key developments of the previous few days. Please read through this e-blast for updates on face coverings, our landfills, our new eviction prevention program, the County Executive's town halls, and more. Be sure to note that the day and time of the County Executive's Weekly Virtual Town Hall has been changed to Tuesdays at 6 p.m. This being the case, there will be no Town Hall this Saturday.

Also, be sure to to fill out your Census survey, and please remind your neighbors to do the same. Performing this civic duty only takes 10 minutes and can be done from the safety of your home while complying with the governor's stay at home order. Please consider emailing your family, friends, and community list serves to remind them to fill out the Census as well.

County Executive Pittman Announces New Financial Protections 
New eviction prevention program first of its kind in the state 

County Executive Steuart Pittman announced a new Eviction Prevention Program that will help renters struggling to pay rent or utility bills because of recent job loss or employment disruption in the wake of the COVID-19 public health crisis.

Virtual Town Halls
Our Virtual Town Halls are moving! Beginning this week we will now be holding our Virtual Town Halls on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. instead of Saturday mornings.

We'll also be moving locations. You'll no longer see us at the studio, as we'll all be joining via video from home. This will allow us to feature more guests to answer your questions.

Retail Shoppers and Employees Required to Wear Masks to Prevent Spread of COVID-19
On Tuesday County Executive Steuart Pittman and Anne Arundel Health Officer Dr. Nilesh Kalyanaraman jointly announced an  Order for Public Safety  that requires shoppers to wear face coverings in retail stores.

Then, on Wednesday, Governor Hogan issued an Executive Order that essentially expanded these requirements state-wide. The county has conformed our guidance to the state executive order.

County Executive Pittman Launches COVID-19 Health Equity Initiative
In the first of an ongoing series of video meeting dialogues on health equity, Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman and county Health Officer, Dr. Nilesh Kalyanaraman, marshaled more than 100 members of the community to discuss targeted interventions to directly address the disproportionate loss of life to COVID-19 suffered among African Americans, Hispanics, and lower-income residents of Anne Arundel County.

New Vehicle Limits at County Recycling Centers Implemented in Accordance With CDC Social Distancing Guidelines
Wait Times Anticipated During Peak Times and Saturdays

To further enhance the safety of County residents and employees during the ongoing COVID-19 State of Emergency, the Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works has implemented a ten (10) vehicle limit at all three Anne Arundel County Recycling Centers. Effective immediately, only ten (10) vehicles will be permitted to enter and use a facility at any one time. Traffic will be held at each facility’s entrance gate to ensure proper social distancing of persons in accordance with the Center for Disease Control guidelines.

County Executive Pittman Signs Executive Order to Reinforce Community Engagement During COVID-19 Crisis
County Executive Steuart Pittman signed an  executive order  to allow county boards and commissions to meet virtually by video during the coronavirus public health emergency. The order also reinforces the requirement for a public community meeting as part of the development process, while allowing development review to proceed.

Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks Places Donation Trailers at Four Regional Parks
The Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks in cooperation with the Anne Arundel County Food Bank, Office of Emergency Management, and Right Away Storage will have donation trailers in place starting Wednesday, April 15th, to encourage park visitors to donate non-perishable food items.

The food bank has been experiencing a 200% increase in the numbers of residents who rely on the food pantries located throughout the county. Donating is considered an essential reason to leave your home. 

The trailers will be located at the four regional parks listed below. 
  • Quiet Waters Park - 600 Quiet Waters Park Rd, Annapolis
  • Kinder Farm Park - 1001 Kinder Farm Park Rd, Millersville
  • Downs Park - 8311 John Downs Loop, Pasadena
  • Fort Smallwood Park - 9500 Fort Smallwood Rd,Pasadena
