An Update from the Office of Community Engagement and Constituent Services (CECS)
Dear Community Leaders and Members of Anne Arundel County,

Last week County Executive Pittman signed an Executive Order that recognizes Juneteenth as a County holiday. He believes that celebrating Juneteenth as an official County holiday demonstrates our county’s true commitment to freedom and equality - for all. We encourage everyone to mark June 19th on their calendar and find some way to observe the holiday this year.

I also want to highlight that this Thursday the Department of Recreation and Parks will begin a series of seven town halls, one for each councilmanic district, to gain more input for the 2022 Land Preservation, Parks, and Recreation Plan. Be sure to read the details below, and then show up to have your voice heard as this plan is developed.

County Executive, Councilmembers Issue Statement on Passage of Resilience Authority Legislation
Yesterday, the Anne Arundel County Council passed legislation to create a local Resilience Authority to finance and support the construction of resilience infrastructure. County Executive Steuart Pittman issued the following comments:

“I want to thank the County Council for passing legislation to create a Resilience Authority, and I want to thank our lead sponsors in the Maryland General Assembly - Senator Sarah Elfreth and Delegates Courtney Watson and Brooke Lierman - for their work in moving forward with the state authorizing legislation.

The Anne Arundel County Resilience Authority is the brainchild of the best minds in resilience financing, and experts across the country are watching us. It accompanies our resilience plan and the resilience section of Plan2040. Rather than depending completely on our taxpayers to fund our defense against the impacts of climate change, we are creating a body that will attract federal and private funds to our jurisdiction.”

LPPRP Town Halls
Anne Arundel County is updating its Land Preservation Parks and Recreation Plan (LPPRP), and the Department of Recreation and Parks wants to hear from you. The LPPRP will guide the county's decision making around land conservation, parks and recreation planning, park development, and program improvements.

The “Town Hall” sessions will allow the Department to collect further and evaluate information to serve the public better. The planned listening sessions are the second step in the Department’s outreach to the public for input to the Plan.

Programs will be focused on helping students engage in unfinished learning following this unprecedented school year, with a focus on mathematics, literacy, and preparing for the next grade level. All programs will support students to have fun while building healthy relationships with peers, practicing skills, and learning new concepts.
