Tonight we will be talking about our plan to eliminate the opportunity gap in Anne Arundel County. We'll discuss the impact that systemic racism has on education and the steps we're taking both inside and outside the school system to address the root causes of the opportunity gap that impacts our kids.

County Executive Pittman Signs Plan2040, Anne Arundel County’s General Development Plan
Last Thursday, May 13, County Executive Steuart Pittman signed Plan2040, Anne Arundel County’s General Development Plan, into law. The County Executive was joined by County Council Chairwoman Sarah Lacey (District 1), Councilmembers Allison Pickard (District 2), Andrew Pruski (District 4), Lisa Rodvien (District 6), and community leaders from throughout the county to sign the bill in Odenton along the WB&A trail, a few blocks away from the Odenton MARC Station.

County Executive, Anne Arundel County Public Schools Announce Creation of the Joint Commission on the Opportunity Gap
County Executive Steuart Pittman and Anne Arundel County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. George Arlotto announced today the creation of the Joint Commission on the Opportunity Gap. The Joint Commission will initiate and monitor progress toward meeting the four priority recommendations in the Joint Initiative to Eliminate the Opportunity Gap (“JIEOG”).

Department of Health Releases Community
Health Report Update
The Anne Arundel County Department of Health has released an updated edition of its 2020 Report of Community Health Indicators. The 47-page online report outlines the county’s standing in 10 key health areas while meeting the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. The key areas are demographic trends; health outcomes; health equity and social determinants of health; COVID-19; gun violence; chronic diseases; communicable diseases; maternal and child health; suicide; and alcohol, tobacco, and substance use.

Residents can view a calendar of upcoming meetings in their area, review site plans and other documents, attend virtual meetings, watch previously recorded meetings, and provide public comments directly to the Office of Planning and Zoning - all through the new Community Meetings website.
