An Update from the Office of Community Engagement and Constituent Services (CECS)
Dear Community Leaders and Members of Anne Arundel County,

A lot has happened since the last edition of this e-blast, and we’re excited to share it all with you.

Yesterday, the County Council passed County Executive Pittman’s FY22 budget. This budget puts Anne Arundel County back on track after a year of disruption due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. It makes necessary investments in education, public safety, infrastructure, and more! It does so while being extremely fiscally responsible and keeping our tax rates amongst the lowest in the state. Thank you to the County Council members that worked with the administration and voted in favor of a budget that meets the needs of our residents. Thank you to each of you who gave input throughout the budget process. This is democracy in action.

Last Wednesday, County Executive Pittman signed legislation that allows our restaurants to continue expanded outdoor dining throughout the summer and the fall. As soon as outdoor dining was protected, he then signed an Executive Order that terminated the county's state of emergency.

Today, County Executive Pittman announced Mr. Pete Hill as Anne Arundel’s first-ever Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. We are extremely excited to have Pete on board, and we look forward to his leadership as we continue this work together. To this end, please remember to find a way to mark Juneteenth with your family and/or friends this weekend.

You can read more about these and many other things below.

County Council Passes County Executive Pittman’s Fiscal Year 2022 Budget
The Anne Arundel County Council passed County Executive Steuart Pittman’s Fiscal Year 2022 budget in a 4-3 vote today, marking the end of a process that included a series of seven virtual town halls where residents offered input on the budget’s construction.

“This year’s budget puts us back on track, helping us achieve four basic goals for our residents: restore trust in government, create economic opportunity for all, implement smart growth policies, and promote health and wellness,” County Executive Steuart Pittman said. “Our path to this budget was thoughtful and deliberate. We listened carefully to residents, departments, and financial experts, and created a budget that is fiscally responsible and fair."
