For 128 years, Northwestern Settlement has nurtured, educated, and inspired children and families in need in Chicago. Join us in changing lives through arts, education, and social services!

Dear Supporters and Friends,

As we finish almost two months of shelter in place, I find myself reflecting on our core values: Nurture, Inspire, Educate. Everything we do at Northwestern Settlements aims to fulfill these values. These values have never been more so important to us. It is easy to be disheartened during this trying time, but the work of our volunteers, donors and staff continues to nurture, inspire, and educate. At the Settlement, we are constantly adjusting and innovating on how to best serve our neighbors during this pandemic. And our community continues to support our efforts in new and exciting ways. As you read the many ways in which our programs are responding to COVID-19, I hope it will nurture your spirit, educate you about new opportunities, and inspire you to action.
Sincerely,
Ron Manderschied
President

The Food Pantry continues to operate and run as a vital program for our community. With contactless distribution of pre-packed food and supply bags, the food pantry has provided over 2,100 bags of food to our neighbors. Through our #GivingTuesdayNow campaign, we raised over $10,000 for the food pantry and qualified for a GoFundMe matching grant! You can still donate and thanks to our generous donors, all donations up to $37,500 will be matched. Double your impact by making a donation today.

Support the food pantry by donating on our   GoFundMe  page or purchasing items off our Amazon Wish List

Early Childhood Education  provided diapers to our families this week. Diapers and baby wipes are essential items for families with small children that are becoming increasingly hard to find during the pandemic. If you would like to donate diapers, baby wipes, or other items for families with small children you can do so by purchasing them off our Amazon Wish List or contacting [email protected]

Rowe Elementary and Middle Schools  scholars are wrapping up their school year and looking to celebrate! On May 21st, we will be honoring our 8th graders as they make the important journey from Middle School to High School. Despite not being able to celebrate in person, our teachers and staff will be making the day as special as possible with a virtual tie ceremony at 9 am on Facebook and a car parade at 2 pm. Staff will decorate their cars and drive around the below route. All 8th graders and families are encouraged to make posters/signs with the name of their scholar and the high school they will be attending. Families who do not live in the area can park along the route. All participants, including children over 2, must wear a mask and abide by social distancing measures.

We know that strong partnership, communication, and outreach between teachers, students and families will continue to get us through this difficult time.  Rowe staff are posting information and encouragement on social media! Make sure to follow Rowe on Instagram & Facebook

Family CARES is continuing to connect and support our families through teletherapy. Family CARES holds over 70 sessions a week via remote and phone conferencing. Since the start of the pandemic, families worry about their safety and security. Our counselors are there to help. T he Center offers bilingual mental health counseling and family wellness services to members of the Settlement community. Family CARES is currently collecting supplies for kids Therapy Kits. You can help by purchasing items off their Amazon Wish List. These kits provide tools and comfort for children to process their emotions and relieve any stress they might be feeling.   Stay up to date with by following Northwestern Settlement on  Instagram  &  Facebook .
