Dear Supporters and Friends,

The impact of the coronavirus has been widespread and profound. It is impossible to ignore the loss or repercussions the virus has taken on our wellbeing, physically, mentally, socially, and economically. This pandemic has put the inequalities of our society under a microscope. Those who need the most help have been hit the hardest. The importance of our mission has never been more clear. Everything we do at Northwestern Settlement works towards disrupting generational poverty so that we can all live in a more free and equal society.

I am immensely proud of how our staff has responded to this crisis and the work that they continue to do has helped strengthen our community. Indeed we are living through a surreal time, yet it is how we respond and care for the people around us that will define this moment of history. I am inspired and heartened by the acts of courage and generosity I have seen: From our pantry staff and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to provide necessary supplies to our community, to our teachers and staff making sure that all our scholars have access to online learning, to our generous supporters whose contributions ensure we can continue to care for our families. The only thing we can do is to keep going, and we will do it together.
Sincerely,
Ron Manderschied
President

The Food Pantry continues to operate and run as a vital program for our community. With contactless distribution of pre-packed food and supply bags, the food pantry has provided over $60,000 worth of emergency supplies and food to our neighbors. We are asking for your support in order to keep providing necessary supplies for our community. You can donate to the GoFundMe  page or purchase items off our Amazon Wish List . One bag of food provides 5-6 meals for 2-3 people. You can make a difference today!

Rowe Elementary and Middle Schools officially started E-Learning last week. As Governor Pritzker announced on Friday, Illinois schools will be physically closed for the remainder of the year. While we are deeply saddened by this news,  Rowe teachers have been working extremely hard to provide scholars with meaningful and purposeful activities in order to keep kids engaged . Rowe's K-8th grade scholars have been actively working in their Google Classrooms by completing their assignments and communicating with teachers.  Over 400 loaner laptops were distributed to students so that they could continue to pursue excellence in their education. Teachers and staff have been working tirelessly so that despite school closures, our scholars are on track for a bright future.

We know that strong partnership, communication, and outreach between teachers, students and families will continue to get us through this difficult time.  Rowe staff are posting information and encouragement on social media! Make sure to follow Rowe on Instagram & Facebook

House In The Wood is looking forward to summer, prepping for all possibilities while also continuing to check in with families. While we have had to cancel our Outdoor Education program through June, we are doing our very best to prepare for summer and continue what programming we can remotely.

Registration for Summer Camp is open and we look forward to serving as a refuge for young people after months of being indoors. Summer Camp will be starting in July this year and we are already working on modifying our pre-camp and arrival procedures to ensure a safe, healthy and fun summer. Additionally, we will be accepting fewer campers this year in order to prioritize safety so make sure to register ASAP. You can read more about what House In The Wood is doing for Summer Camp hereHouse In The Wood is a safe place to play and interact with friends, a place to get outside, a place to learn new skills and a place to experience life under the caring guidance of trained staff.

We would like to give a special shout out to the Evanston Women's Board for kicking off the matching campaign for the food pantry. Thanks to our generous donors, our matching campaign is up to $37,500!

A big cheer for everyone who has volunteered at the food pantry as well! This week we saw volunteers from Evanston Women's Board, North Shore Board, Head Start and After School!

We also want to thank all the teachers and staff that worked so hard on distributing loaner lap tops to our Rowe Scholars last week. Their hard work is being put to good use!
